On Tuesday night the 26th several barns owned by Thomas Baiton of Wiltshire were consumed by lightning. A large hayrick about two furlongs away, owned by Farmer Rawlings, was also damaged. At Hereford Affizes final day three received death sentences for horse stealing. Edward Whitefoot and Thomas Pendre for sheep theft with Pendre reprieved. Worcester judges condemned Thomas Gardner for robbing on the Dissaway, reprieved, and William Morgan for stealing a gold ring from Mr Chandler of Bromsborough, Gloucestershire, to be transported. Three acquitted, two discharged by proclamation. At Shrewsbury Affizes two criminals sentenced to death. Edmund Woollasten junior for murder and robbery, to be hung in chains near the murder site. David Davies for horse stealing. Lancelot Cookson and others ordered transported for seven years for various thefts from a London wagon. Four acquittals. A suit between Miss Poife and Lord Weymouth over boundaries of Woollaf ton and Streivon estates in Salop concluded with a verdict for the Lady.
