News from Charles Town and distant garrisons

Brisol August reports from Charles Town dated June 7 that General Oglethorpe with Georgia and Carolina troops captured Fort St Diego near St Augustine after a night of rifle fire. Spaniards abandoned a 700-strong garrison, 13 cannon captured. Also noted: May 14 Mayflower, Capt Edward Sores, and other small craft have seized a salt-laden vessel near Campeachy and a brigantine off Tackaluta Bar. Race-ready troops in North Carolina Virginia and other provinces prepare for expeditions against the Spanish West Indies under Lord Cathcart, with Cel Blakeney’s Foot Regiment arriving for Hastison’s command.
