The Prince de T- was fined 20,000 ducats for tobacco smuggling. Timber from Calabria for ships floods the king's magazines. An earthquake touched Rome briefly. Rome doubts a Spain Rome accord. the pope may resist ceding benefices. The Order of Malta petitions the pope to spare employments for brave Knights. In Vienna, the Archduchess and Dutchess of Lorraine are believed to be with child while evacuations continue through Italy and Germany. Baron Dahlmann codes new talks for Russian Ottoman peace, as 40,000 imperial troops mass near the Danube and Turkish forces gather near Widdin. Proposed peace terms tilt toward Russian gains including Asaph control and Black Sea navigation. At Mentz Count Seckendorff moves toward Philipsburg and a king elected in favor of the Duke of Lystaly, though opposed by several. A note on Pigeon powders and Boyle’s philosophy closes the mix.
