A reader submits a critique about a 1693 land tax to Parliament, noting flaws in a scheme that compares county tax shares to how many MPs each county sent. Also reports two executions in Tippecary and a triple hang, with a dramatic scene at Newgate drawing crowds and sorrow.
Ireland Dublin April 14 report notes Saturday last Mr Baron Wainwright arrived in town from the Munster Circuit sparking local interest and continuing legal proceedings or official business.
The April dispatch lists multiple ships leaving for Lisbon Guernsey Newfoundland and New York and arrivals from Carolina Leghorn Amsterdam Jamaica Antigua and Dunkirk. Vessels include Hanover Pacquet Lucy Mary Galley Dolley Catherine Princess Augusta Henry and Mary Prince of Orange and several man of wars and tenders.
At Bristol the Cicero and Dighton bound for Jamaica, the Diana from Maryland, and the Fisher from Carolina. At Liverpool the Willoughby from Jamaica. At Dublin the Anne Arthur from New York and the Don Francisco Herne from Leghorn. At Jamaica the Allied Lowder and the Bonetta Hammond from London.
London news from Cicero reports Captain Dighton arriving at Bristol from Jamaica and Admiral Vernon patrolling off Hispaniola on February 5 seeking the French fleet but not finding them. Dutch-Indiaman letters say Haeflingfield and Wilmington were at St Helena on December 13. John Dean of Sussex was aboard. A Dover rescue by a Dutch ship saved Captain Tavener from a larger Dutch vessel and a Spanish privateer. Notices of deaths, ship cargoes, theater listings, stock prices, and an estate for let near Bromley are noted, along with a public delivery of a woman in Southwark.
