Daily Courant (Newspaper) - October 22, 1730, London, Middlesex f f' Daily Coiifant Thurfday, O&ober zx7 1730. Tefierday arrivd the Mail due from France. Mojhow, Sept. xi. N. S. ON the 16th Inftant, being the Day on which the Fettivai of St. Elizabeth is celebrated here, whofe Name the Princefs, Aunt to the Ute Czar bears, that Princefs received the Compliments, as ufual, of the Foreigo Minifters and the Lords and Ladies of the Court. In the Evening there was a magnificent' Ball at Court, which the Czarina honoured with her Prefence; and whifch1 was followed by a great Kepaft ferved at feveral Tables. On the 17th, arrived here two Deputies of the Datchy of Ctfurland, to whom her Czarian Majefty gave a long Audience. Wc are aflured, they came to pray that Princefs to ufe her Intereft with the King and Republick of Poland, that no Refolu-tion may be taken that Is contrary to their Privileges during thfe Affethbly of the enfufng General Dyet oif that Kingdom. It has been re-ported for fome Days, that the Czarina has fent-Orders to the General Officer who coril--fljands her Troops in Coiirland, not ify permit any Grandee of Poland to tarry there above three Days, and to guard all the Pafles thro* which that Dutchy may be encet'd. One Day laft Week, her Czarian Majefty caufed the Prefents of Sables and other rich Furs to be diftributed to the Ambaifadors and Foreign Minifters, which it is cuftomary to give them every Year when the Winter;draws nigh. Afterwards, tbey a JMarJc with Guns car-tying 3 Pound Ball, tliey threw xo Bombs of joo Pound Weight; after which/theTrodps of the Artillery made divers Evolutions. Thefe Exerctfes being over, the Infante or" Portugal was magnificently entertained by Major-General Spetrffuter.
