Daily Courant (Newspaper) - November 23, 1730, London, Middlesex The Dailv Courant* N. 9089. Monday, November 2.3, 1730. c Saturday arrived the Mail due from Holland. Cadifr .OS. 31. N.S. I HE Sicknefs whichhad taged here, and was almoftceafed, being, broke ouc again with greater Fury, oar Magistrates take a great deal of Pains to prevent the bad Confequences that might enfue thereupon: And as this Diftemper is attributed as much to the Infection of the Air, by cafting all forts of Filth into a certain Well, as to the Moifture of that Element by the continual RainS, the Magiftra tes have ordered that Well to be ftopt up : And as the Weather is come fine again, toe hope to be quite rid of that Diftemper in a very little while; the rather, becaufe upon theftricteft Enquiry, it does not appear ro be contagious, as we had Reafon to fear, from the great Number of People that died of it. Mean while, feveral Merchants have thought fit to leave the Town, and retire into the Country, till the Sicknefs is over. : Seville, Nov. 3. N. S. The Duke de Bag-nos is preparing to go to Portugal, to take Poffeflion of' the Eftate belonging to the Dutchy of Aveyro, by which Title he is hereafter to be catted. The Regiments of Horfe of Seville and Calatrava are to go into Winter-Quarters in Eftremadura. Mojcow,. Nov. a. N. S. .On the 28th paft, the Czarina return'd hither, with her whole Court, from Ifmailow, and rook up her Re-fidence in the New Palace, where the Foreign Minifters and other Perfons of t)iftinction paid her their Compliments. The next Day, the Court was very numerous;, and in the Evening there was an Apartment and Ball, and the whole City was illuminated. The Report of the Great Chancellor Count Go-lofskin's Sicknefs, and that of the Czarina's having given an Eftate in Silefia to Count Ofterman, were without Foundation. Vienna. Nov: 15. N.S* Two Days ago the Court received an Exprefs from Paris ; and'tis reported that thrDifpatches he brought, leave very little ground to hope that the Negotiations will be refumed for effe&ing an Accommodation between this Court and Spain ; fo that in all Appearance Orders will be immediately iffued for augmenting the Imperial Troops upon the Foot of the Plan drawn up for that Purpofe. The General and Subaltern Officers, who have obtained Fur-lows to come hither from Italy, are all* to return thither in the Month of February. *Tis faid the Duke of Deuxponts is fefolved to come to this. Court, to folicite the Affair of the Succefllon to the Dutcbies of Berg and Jailers in Perfon ; whence it iseafy to forefee, that that Affair will cut out a great deal of Work, both here and in the Dyet of Ratif-bon. Some Letters from Conftancinople feed us with Hopes, that the new Sultan will fend a folemn EmbafTy to this Court. Drefden, Nov. 18. N. S. Sir Luke Schatb, who arrived here fome Days ago, has already had feveral Conferences with the Cowit de Hoym, Prime Minifter, and has fenr an Exprefs to London. The Cont de Hoym has likewife fent an Exprefs to Warfaw, who is,daily expected back from thence. We hear the Count de Frife, Great Chamberlain, is nominated to go and execute a Commif- fion at the Court of Mofcow, whither his Majefty has fent a Prefent for the Czarina, of feveraF Chefts of rich Porcelain made in Saxony. Deuxponts, Nov. 20. N. S. The Protectants of thisDutchy have been long made to hope, that a Locul Commiflion would be appointed to examine their Grievances, and apply fuit-able Remedies; but there is nothing yet done in it. Mean time thofe Grievances multiply every Day ; and it appears that the Supreme Confiftory, and the Administrators of the Ec-clefiaftieal Eftates, who by the Duty of their Office are obliged to com plait* thereof to the Evangelical Body, are difcouraged from fo doing, becaufe the Minifters of the Claffes of the Bailiwicks of MeifTenheim and JLicbten-berg have not yet received any Anfwer to the Memorial they prefenred to them the 19th of Auguft laft, the Subftance of which Memo-rial was this: " That it was with Concern they heard, " that the Duke's Minifters endeavour'd to " perfuade his Higbnefs, that he had an in-" difputable Right to take away from the *' laid "Claffes the Tenths of Neubrug, of u which they have received no Benefit thefe " two Years, tho* they had been in Poffeflion " of them Time put of Mind, and that Pof-ie feflion.grounded upon the moft autbentick *' Writings; and that the fame Minifters have " insinuated to his Highnefs,; that the Depu-" ties of the Claffes, who went to Deuxponts, " to make proper Reprefenrations upon that *' Subject, acted contrary to the Refpect they " owe to their Sovereign, and intended only " to give Uneafinefs to bis Higbnefs; where-" as they acted only upon a Principle of Con-" fcience, to maintain the Juftice of their " Caufe : That they are fo well perfuaded of " their Sovereign's Equity, and Affection for " bis Subjects, that if they could apply them-" felves directly to his Highnefs, he would not take it ill of them that they refufed to fign the Act of Ceffion which was tendered " to them the 2d of April, the Day they " were celebrating Good Friday ; a Day fet apart and held in Veneration by all Cbri-" ftians, and very improper for fuch an Af-41 fair: That that Refufal was grounded en-" tirely upon Juftice, fince if tbey had done ' otherwife, they would not only have acted " againft their Confidence, but have been " anfwerable for it to their Pofterity, as ha-" ving no more Right to difpofe of the Ec-" clefiaftical Eftates, than Guardians have to " difpofe of the Eftates of their Wards: That they are under a very great Concern, " that a Minifter of theRoman Catholick Reli-* gion is nominated to be prefent at the Audit " of the Accounts of the Proteftant Churches, " it being directly contrary the Constitutions " of the Empire: That they are furprized " that the Supreme Confiftory and the Ad-tl miniftrators of the Ecclefiaftical Eftates, " far from taking the Juftice .of thfeiv Com-" plaints to Heart, feem to give a tielphwj " Hand to thefe Innovations : And Jaftly, " That if, contrary to all Expectation, they " fliould not receive Satisfaction with refpect " to their Grievances, they {hall be obliged, " contrary to their Inclination, to apply-them-" felves to the Evangelical Body, and defire " them to intercede for them to his Imperial *i Majefty, Hanover, Nov. ai.N. S. By our laft Letters*' from Hildefheim, we are inform'd, that the Differences between the Burghers of the New Town and the Chapter are not fo near, being made an End of, as was imagined ; fince we underftand there were fix Burghers carried to Prifon the 18th Inftanr, by Order of the Imperial CommilEoners, for being concerned in the Tumult that happened there fome Years ago, upon account of the Differences with the Convent of St. Michael; that other Burghers being fled, the CommifEdners pretend that the Magistrates are anfwerable for their Forthcoming ; and-that in the mean while they had placed Guards in the Houfes of thofe that were gone away. Frankfort, Nov, 23. N.S. The Prince of Waldeck arrived here the 19th Inftanr, from Italy; and Yefterday Prince Alexander of/ Wircemberg and his Lady arrived here from Vienna. We have received Advice, that Prince Maximilian of Heffe-CafTel's Lady is brought to Bed of a Princefs. Tbey write from Strasburg, that Orders are come thither, as well as to other Places along the Rhine, to fill the Magazines; whence 'tis concluded, that the French Troops quartered here, will be confiderably reinforced this Winter. We are affured that Meafures are taken for afTembling an Armysof 55,000 Men upon the Rhine early in the Spring in cafe of a War; to be compofed of the Emperor's Forces, and thofe of the.
