On Sunday Morning, being Cbriftmas Day, the Pope faid High Mais, in the Prefence of twenty-five Cardinals, the Conftable Colonna, the Roman Senate, and the Ambaflador of Bologna ; but his Holineis grew fo faint, that he could not go through with it, and the Cardinal Camerlengo Albani was obliged to take up the Holt ; but being carried home to his Chamber, the ancient Father loon re-cover'd bimfelf. On Wednefday the Count d'Al-menara went into the Seminary of the Jefuits, to fit himfelf for Holy Orders. The Pope having obferved, that Cardinal Alberoni wore a Peruque to Church this Chriftmas, he i|nt this Morning to admonifh him for the fecond time, not to do fo any more, nor even to appear at the Vatican in ir. On Thurfday Morning died here, after a lingering Illnefs, in the 80th Year of his Age, Signor Molara* Dean of the Apoftolical Chamber, Commif-fary-General at War, and Canon of the Cathedral Church of Sr. John de Lateran. He is fucceeded as CommifTary at War by Signor Sardini of Lucca, Clerk of the Chamber ; and Signor Perelli is made Clerk of the Chamber, in thejroom of Signor Sardini. Milan, Dec. 31. N. S. On the loth Inftant, in the Evening, we felt an Earthquake here $ buc it did no Harm, though it was obferved in feveral other Places of this Dutchy. The Count de Falkenftein is arrived here from Germany, in order to go to the Grifons in Quaiity of Extraordinary Minifter of the Emperor.- Mean while, he has had feveral Conferences with our Governor upon the Subject of his Commiflion. Here goes a Report, that his Imperial Majefty has demanded of the Grifons Paffage for 12,000 Men, who are to march that way to Italy. Bologna, Jan. 3. N. S. The Counfellor-Marquis Lewis Albergotti was, on Thutfday Jaft, chofen Gonfalonier ; and upon New-Year's Day he took Poffdfion of that high Dignity with the ufual Ceremonies. The Dutchefs of Parma has made a Vifit to her Brother at Reggio. Tbey write from Gua* ftalla, that the Duke of that Name mends apace ; and there is already fome Talk of his Marrying. Venice, Jan. 7. The 1 ft Inftant, being New-Year's Day, the Hoft was expofed upon the Altar in the Church of St. Mark, till Tuefday in the Afternoon, when the ufual ProcejHon was made with it along the Plain, followed by the Doge and his Lady, the Senators and Nobles walking Two and Two, with lighted .Tapers in their Hands. The next Morning began the Diverfions of the Carnaval; and Masks being permitted, a great Number of them appeared at Night in all the Streets of this City. The Chevalier Andrea Erizzo being returned from his Em-baffy in Spain, went the 3d Inftant, with a numerous Train of Procurators, Senators, and other principal Lords and Friends, to the Senate, where he gave an Accojint of his Negotiations. On Saturday laft, Signor Giouanni Priuli and Signor Giacomo da Riva were chofe by the Senate, Captains of Men of War of this Republick. The Duke di Matalona is arrived here from Vienna, and lodges at an Inn, defigning to proceed very foen on his Journey to Rome. Coire, Jan. 8. N; S. The Deputies of Zurich and Bern, who have hitherto uled their utmoft Endeavours to accommodate the unhappy Differences that have been carried fo high between the Members of our Regency, without the leaft Appearance of Succefs, begin to be tired of the Undertaking, and have again defired their Cantons to recall them. Should this bw comply'd with, the Wellwifhers to our Country are appre-henfive, that Affairs would draw towards a Crifis every Day; and both Parties, which are more and more enraged againft one another, betake themfelves in the End to Arms; tho* the Auftrian Faction flatter themfelves, that the Extraordinary Minifter of the Emperor, who is fhortly expected from Milan, will put the Balance into their Hands; and confequently, that we fhall be beholden to them for the Recovery of our Tranquillity. Came in the Ann Galley, of London, from Sr. Malo, for Cadiz, with Bale Goods, Francis Afhill; alfo the Two Sifters, of Plymouth, from Havre de Grace, Id Ballaft, Thomas Nevil. This Day came in the Mary, of and for London, from Denia, with Fruit, Edward Champer. Remains here the Hamburgh Galley, of London, Michael Page, and feveral Dutch Ships bound to HbU land. Wind hard at E. , . Dartmouth, Jan. 13. On the 1 ith Iriftarir, failed the Ruifel, Capr. Abbot, for London, bur came back Yefterday, the Wind ftill at N. E. Came in the Ifabella, of and froiri Bilboa, Anthony Dolerede, with Wool and Iron, for Havre de Grace. This Day came in the Town of Newport in Flanders, for Oftend, Meycom, with Wine and Brandy, from Bourdeaux. Remains here the St. Ann, of and from Bruges, for Bayonne j and the two Velfels, of and for Guernfey, mentioned formerly, failed with the Ottes Sloop, Capr. Williams, a cruizing. Weymouth, Jan. 14. This Morning came in here his Majefty's Sloop Swifc, from Portf-mouth. Sailed the Thomas and Rebecca, of Pool, William Bowles, from this Place, for Malaga. Wind N. E. Deal, Jan. 15. On Wednefday* died at his Houfe at Edmonton Richard Burton, Efij; one of the Searchers at the Cuftom-houfe. A Bill of Indi&ment being found by the Grand Jury at Hicks*s-Hall againft John Everer, for a Robbfey on the Highway, he was Yefterday-araigned at the Old Bailey, and will be tfy'd this Morning. Yefterday the Seffions began at the Old Bailey; there were 19 Prifoners try'd, but none capitally convicted. Thomas Barribrldge,- Efif; late Warden of the Fleer, having gone a Shooting with fome Gentlemen near Bromley, was undesignedly wound' ed in the Face by one of his Companions, iii fliooting at a Bird flying; his Eye was fome-what hurt, but as we hear, not dangeroufly. On Wednefday laft his Majefty's Ship the Solebay was put in Commiflion ; the Command of which is given to Capt. Peter Warren, and Mr. John Ambrofe is made Lieutenanf. This Day Seven Prifoners, who were tried at the Quarter Seffions held in the Borough of Southwark, are to be whipt for Petty Larcena-ries, from rhe New Goal to St.Thomas's Gate. Several Fugitives were difcharged at the faid SeflSon bur of the New Goal, the Marflialfea, and the King's Bench. The afowfaid Stffion ended laft Night.
