THE Primate of Poland has fpent the Holidays at Stkierniwicz ; and is expected here immediately afce Twelfth Day, together with th Bifhop of Cracow, and the other Lords ap pointed by the King to aifift at the Confe rences that are to be held here with the Fo reign Minifters the 22d and 23d of January The Great General of the Crown, and M Pociey, Great General of Lithuania, are like wife to affift at thofe Conferences ; and th former is fee out from Lemburg for tha purpofe; but before his Departure, he 01 dered the Polifh Troops in the Ukraine to b reinforced, fo as to be able to make Hea( againft the Coffacks who commit great Dil orders upon that Frontier. There are aboui 6000 of thofe Adventurers got together; and having divided rhemfelves into three Bodies they' plunder Chriftians, Turks arid Jews without Diftinction, and have half ruined the Eftates of the Palatine of Kiow and Princ< Lubomirski. The Jefuites of Wiayci have defired the Rector of their Order at Cami-niec, to fend them a Detachment of Soldiers' to guard their belt Effedis to that City. The Count de Dubin, Referendary, and M. Dem-boroski, Regent of the Crown, have been dangeroufly ill but are now fomewhat better. 1 be Corpfe of the Count de DenhofF, Und<-r General of the Crown Army, is to be inie'Tfd here with a great deal of Solemnity toward? the Clole of next Month ; and molt of the Grandees have been invited to the Funeral. The Governor of Caminiec has received Orders not to fufFer any Goods to be brought into this Kingdom from Constantinople, the Plague not being entirely ceafed there. The Tribunal of Lublin broke up'tbe 20th Inftant, and that of Peterkow will fit the 16th of next Month. We enjoy a perfect Tranquillity along the Dniefter and on the fide of Walachia ; neither do we bear cf any more Diforders in Poland or Lithuania, aboac the Rai/ing of Tall Men, the Grandees every where gathering up all they can hear of, and fending them as Prefents to the King. Bafil, Jan. 2. N. S. Several Officers belonging to the Imperial Troops in Italy are lately gone through Infpruck on their way to Germany, to raife Recruits. As it is taken for granted, that the Infante of Spain, Don Carlos, will go over into Italy in the Spring, and it is not yet known in what Place his Highnefs:will refide, the Repub'ick of Genoa feems to be in earneft to finifh the Affair of Seravalle, and fecure the PofTeffion of rhar Town. Mean time, the chief Princes and States of Italy are concerting Meaiures for the Preservation of their refpective Countries,, and to prevent Surprize. We may expert to hear of frefli Troubles in the Diftrict of Tockemburg, unlefs their Prince the Abbot of St. Gall, can be perfuaded to f difcounrenance his Officers and Collectors of the Taxes, who load the People wirh intolerable Duties, and then exact them with unparallel'd Rigour. They write from Warfaw, that the Count de Wiifeck, Am-baffador of his Imperial Maj'efty, was lately arrived there; and that they were advifed from the Frontiers, that the Turks went on wich their Military Preparations, and loft no Time in training their Men, both Horfe and Foot, to handle their Arms; the Infidels longing to fee a Rupture among the Chriftian Potentates, that they may have an Opportunity of extending the Ottoman Empire, or at leaft recover what was taken from them in the laft War. We are a/fared, that at the Inftances of the Polifn Grandees, his Majefty has taken ihe Refoluti-on to iflue Writs for the Meeting of the General Dyet of the Kingdom about Eafter, and will be going thither early enough to be at the Opening of the fame. The Carnaval begins here the 13th Inftanc. Chriften'd in this City laft Year 1555; Buried 2075; Marry'd 450 Couple. ^atisbon, Jan. 9, N. S. Two Days ago, the Proteftant Envoys held an extraordinary Affembly ; but the Refill thereof is not yet certainly known. It is confirmed on all Hands, that a confiderable Body of Imperial Troops will (hortly march to Italy"; but whether the Bavarian Forces will be made ufe of upon that Occafion, in pnrfuance of the Capitulation, muft be left to Time to determine. Some Days ago the Bifliop of Kempft-fee's Brother was marry'd at a Place not far from this City, and the Bifliop was at the Wedding. And it having been obferv'd, not only that moftof the Company who were at the Entertainment fell fick prefently after, bur that the Bridegroom and the Bifliop, and 5 other Gentlemen* were, fince dead, it is fufpected that there was foul Play, by poifon-ing the Wine, or fome fuch Villany ; and this Affair is ordcr'd to be ftrictly enquired into. The Baron de Gotter, Envoy of Saxe-Gotha, arrived here two Days ago from Vienna; and as Toon; as he is legitimated, he will make a Tour to Berlin and Gotha. Ment^, N. S. According to fome Advices, the Bifhop of Bamberg and Wurtz-imrg is expected in his Bifhoprick again, about next April, from the Court of Vienna. The French Garrifons upon the Mofelle, Saar, and the neighbouring Places, ate fo augmented, that they can form an Army out of them ip a very few Davs. Frankfort, Jan. 1 /. N. S. Some Imperial Recruits are arrived in this Neighbourhood, who are to be join'd by the Men raifed here and in other Towns of the Empire, and march with them to Italy. The Recruits that are railing in the Etrpire are to complete the following Regiments of Foot, vi\. Count Wallis, Prince Frederick Barietb, Count Ot- tocar Staremberg, Baron Bettendorf, Prince Charles of Saxe Meiningen, Count Traunj Baron Seckendorf, Prince Charles of Lor-rain, Count Octavi, Baron Ogilby, and the Marquis of Beaufort. A Society of Merchants at Milan have prefented to the Emperor, by the Baron Tinti, a Project for digging a Canal, to draw off the Waters of the Adige, and render ic Navigable as far as Oftiglia ; which would be of very great Advantage to the Commerce of Triefte, be-caufe Goods might then be convey'd thither by Water. The Recompence they demand for the Charge of digging this Canal, is a Grant from his Imperial -Majefty, of the Duties arififig from Goods that fliall pafs that way, for the firft Ten Years. Cologn, Jan. 13. N. S. The Elector of Cologn came and lay aLhis Caftle of Broel on Friday Night laft, and returned the nexjg Day to Bon. An Exprefs from London has croifed the Warth three Leagues and a Half from hence, charged (as we are told) with important Difpatches for the Court of Vienna. A Parcel of Imperial Recruits have been fent from Aix la-Chapelle. Hamburgh, Jan. 24. N. S. It is written from Petersburg, that they are making a moft curious Piece of Tapeftry, to bang all the Apartments of the Czar's Palace at Mofcow^ againft the approaching Marriage' of his Czarian Majefty, at which all the Ruffian Nobility are invited to appear with fplendid Equipages. Considerable Remittances are arrived an Petersburg, for the U(e of the Duke de Liria, Ambaffador of Spain, to whom the Value of the Bills will be paid at , Mofcow in Ruffian Money. Orders are fenc to all the Poft-Mafters becween Petersburg andMofcow, to keep 30 Horfesconftantly ready at an Hour's Warning; and the Poft-Mafters between Mofcow, Smolensko, and Riga, have received the like Orders. The Czar has refolved to go a Hunting but twice . a Week 'in the Neighbourhood of Mofcow; Letters from Drefden advife, that fince the Execution of M. Raiski, Commiffary ac War of the Electorate of Saxony, who was lately beheaded for Peculation, or Mifapply-ing the Publick Money, four other Gentlemen had fhared the fame Fate. Wcfel, Jan. 14. N. S. The Seaftyi of the Year has now put an entire Stop to the Navigation of the Rhine. They write from Berlin, that the^King of Pruflia was ftill ac Potfdam. Deal, Jan. 9. This Morning came down snd failed thro* the Sea Nymph) Prichard, for Barfeadoes; the Greyhound, Harrifon, for Gibraltar ; and the Kerwin, Main, for St. Chriftopbers ; leaving noShip in the Downs.
