OU R frefheft Advices from Barbary bring a Confirmation of the prefent Tranquillity of the Empire of Fez and Morocco. There are now 13 Ivlerchant-Ships in this Bay, belonging to the Engiifh and other Nations. We hear of no other Damage done by the late Storms. Naples, Decemb. 30. N. S. Laft Saturday Morning, Tryal was made without the Gate, of 3 Brafs Cannon, and 5 Mortars, which proved good, but were too litcle,the Founder o;' them having Part of the Metal allowed him by the Government, for which he is committed to Prifon, and would have com* off but very indifferently, bad not the Trya fucceeded well. Twenty Tartanes are ar. rived here, loaden with Corn for the Ufe ol this City. . Home, Dec. 24. N. S. On the 16th Inftanr, the Ambaifador of Malta obtained at laft an Audience of the Pope, which he had demanded fome Days before ; and as foon as it was over, hewenr with fome Knights of the Order to vifit the Count d'AImenara, who has fince been to wait upon Cardinal Imperiali, and had a Private Conference with hisEminency, which lafted two Hours. On Saturday the Holy Father came betimes to the Church of the Vatican, and ordained above 100 Perfons ; bat he was fo fatigued with it, that he grew very faint, and was obliged to return to his Palace. Neverthelefs, he went to Chappel again on Sunday Morning. The fame Afternoon, Cardinal Ferreri made his Publick Entry, with a Train of Eighty-four Coaches and fix, three of which were bis own, and one belong'd to the Cardinal Secrerary of State; with four Gentlemen on Eiorfeback, four Chamberlains, 10 Staff-Officers, 6 Footmen, and other Servants. He went dirciSMy to the Vatican, where be was obliged to wait an Hour for the Pope, who happen'd to be at the new Church of St. Philip Neri. His Holinefs received him however, with a great deal of Affe&ion; after which that Prelate went to his own Palace. On Monday Morning Cardinal Ben-tivoglio received the ufual Compliments, it being the Anniverfary of the Birth day of the King of Spain; and afterwards his Eminency went ro a Solemn Mtfs in.the National Church of Sr. James, where the Te Deum was fung to Mulick on Occafion of the Birth of the lnfanra of Spain. Signor Acquaviva likewife celebrated the Birth day of his Ca tholick Majeity at the lame time, and took that Opportunity to prefent the Pontiff with a curious Pedcftal of Silver gilt, fet with precious-Stone.*, and over ir a Golden Rofa-ry, with a Relick of Sr. Katherine, with which his Holinefs was very well pleafed. On Tuefday the Pope did not go to Chappel as ufual, being very mtich indifpofed. On "Wednefday Morning a particular Congregation was held in the Prefence of Cardinal Lercari, Secretary of State, upon fome Eccleitaftical Affairs of Importance in the Netherlands. On Thurfday Cardinal Ferreri went in State, accompany'd by the Cardinals Aleffandro Albani, Borghefe, Fini, and Caraffa, and a long Train of Prelates, to the Publick Confiftory at the Vatican, where he received the Cardinal's Hat from the Hands of the Pope with the ufual Ceremony. Signor Mafia, who has fo often defired to be recali'd from his Nun. ciature in France without efFect, as well upon Account of his ill State of Health, as becaufe he cannot live within the Compafs of his Salary, is now folliciting by the two Candinals Albani and the Venetian Ambafla-dor, for a Bifhoprick or a fat Abbey j but they have not yet been able to gain him either one or the other. Florence, Dec. 24. N. S. Our Great Duke is in good Health, has this Week held feve,-ral Conferences with his Mintfters, and fent the Pope, according to Cuftorrf, two Chefts of exquifice Sweet-meats, for the Entertainment of the Cardinals upon Chriftmas Day.
