S- WHEN, the Czar was, in the Judgment of his Phyficians, entirely out of Danger, the Small-Pox beginning to die away; bisCza-rian Majefty was feized all on a fudden with fuch a violent Fever, attended with Convul-fionf, the 19th paft, that he died the next Morning at One o'CIock. As the Male Line of the Czarian Family is extinct by his Death, the Dutchefs-Dowager of Courland has been proclaimed Emprels and Sovereign. of all Ruffia ; and Prince Dolgorucki is gone to carry ber the News, and to invite her to come arid take Pofleflion of the Throne. Th� Czar John-Alexiewiiz, Brother to the Czar Peter I. left three Daughters ; namely, the Princefs Katharine, born in i69z, married to the Duke of Mecklerriburg ; ihe Princefs Anne, Dutchefs-Dowager of Courland, now Czarina, born 1693 ; and the Princefs Profcovia, born in 1695, now in a Convent. Expreffes are fent to the Ruffian Minifters refiding in Foreign Courts, to acquaint em with the Death of the Czar, and the Proclaiming of the new Czarina; and to allure them, that this Change (hall make none in the Engagements and Alliances of this Court with the Foreign Powers. lipme, Feb. 4. N. S. On Friday the Pope celebrated Mafs in the Church of the Vatican, it being the Feftival of St. John Chryfo-ftome ; and had afterwards a Private Conference with Cardinal Corradini, about fome Papers and other things of Value, faid to be taken out of his Holinefs's Chamber. On Saturday the Pontiff, gave Audience to the Governor of Rome, and to fome other Minifters of his Court. On Sunday was per* form'd, wirh the ufual Ceremonies, in the Cathedral Church of Sc. Peter, the Beatification of the Venerable Peter Fprrieri of Lor-fain, Founder of the Canons of St. John de Lateran. On Monday a particular Congregation was held at the Cardinal Secretary of State's, concerning the Ecclefiaftical Immunity. The next Day, there was another Congregation at the fame Cardinal's, touching fome Differences between the City of Fer-rara and the Republick of Genoa. The Pope has given the Bifhoprick of Padua, vacant by the Death of Cardinal Barbarigo, to Signor Minotro Ottoboni. The Office of President of Provifions, which Signor Otto-boni had, is conferred upon Signor Ruffo ; that of Prefident of the Chamber, upon Signor Vidoni, and that of Clerk of the Chamber upon Signor Cafoni. The Sacred Col-Jege having refolved ro put a Papal Garrifon into the Cities of Parma and Placentia, as Fiefs of the Church, the Holy Father has nominated Signor Perelli, General of the Arms, to go thither in the Quality of his HoIinj^VCJommiffary. The Princefs, Con-fort to the Prince of Paleftrina, aged 15 Year&^ojner Mont.h, and fome Days, ivas brought to Bed of a Daughter the 30th of January, who was baptized by Signor Cervi-drii thefiH Infant. The Exprefs lent tp "Vienna, about the 6000 Spaniards de-fign'd to be introduced into the Territories of Tufcany, Parma and Placentia, rcturn'd hither on Saturday laft, with the Anfwer of the Imperial Court, and farther Propofals of the Emperor, which have occafion'd the holding .of feveral Councils in his Royal Highnefs's Prelence. It |feems our Minifters are divided in their Sentiments as to the Resolutions they ought to take in this Critical Juncture ; and the Government has order'd Publick Prayers, with Expofition of the Holy Sacrament, to implore the Divine Affiftance in fo arduous a Circumftance ; during which Time of Devotion, Publick Shews and other Diverfions of the Carnaval are forbid. Ye-fterday arrived another Exprefs from Vienna, with Letters recalling the Count de Caimo, Minifter of the Emperor. We hear the Duke de Guftalla has made over to the Princefs Eleonora, his Sifter, the Fiefs he enjoy'd in the Kingdom of Naples, which bring in 10,000 Crowns a Year. Genoa, Feb. 4. N. S. On Sunday laft, Prince Doria and the Duke of Turn's wenc-with the ufual Formalities to the Ducal Palace, to compliment the new Doge upon his Elevation to that Dignity. We have lately loft feveral Perfons of Diftinction ; and among them, Signor Cefare Mari, Stephen Spinola Francavilla, and Paul Galo. The Matter of an Englifh Ship arrived here from Marfeilles, reports, that befides the Men of War and Galleys that are fitting out there and at Toulon, the French are like wife equipping feveral Fire Ships and other Vef-fels of War. Tbey write from Tunis, that ail the Corfairs of that Place were returned into Port, Milan, Feb' 4. N. S. Our Government has received Orders from Vienna, to prepare Quarters in the Mantuan and Cremoneze, for 15,000 Men that are expected next Month from Germany, from whence Officers are daily arriving, to join their Regiments in this Dutchy. The Partifans of Spain give out, that the Courts of Tufcany and Parma are very inclinable to come into the Mea-fures taken in favour of Don Carlos. Count Arconati is nominated to go to Parma, in the Quality of Minifter of his Imperial Majefty. There rages here a Diftemper, that carries off Abundance of People ; and Colds are almoft univerfally complained of throughout : Lombardy. Venice, Feb. 11. N. S. We are actually loading 7 Merchant-Ships for Conftantinople and Smyrna, under Convoy of two Men of War. Signor Antonio Odoli, coovicted of Mifapplication of the Publick Money, was hangld here two Days ago, purfuant to the Sentence of the Council of Ten. Vienna Feb. 11. N. S. The firft Body of Troops defign'd for Italy will break up the 14th Inftanr, Part of them will take the Route of Bavaria and Tyrol, and the remainder will march thro' Carinthia and Friule. Never were feen 10 many Expreffes to go to and fro, as of late Weeks; which makes us conjecture there will fomething more than ordinary break out before it is long. In fhorr, Men talk of a new Scheme or Project, which will be of great Advantage ro all Europe ; but we cannot learn the Materials, whereof it is compofed. The Baron de Wachlendook, Colonel-Commander of the Regiment of Count Guido of Staremburg, is fet out for Florence. The Ruffian Field-Marfhal Count de Weif-bacb, is likewife fet out for Silefia, whence he will proceed on his Return to the Ukraine. General Wallis the Younger is made General of the Artillery. On Saturday laft, the Sum of 2oo,oo�Florins was brought into the Emperor's Treafury, from fome Bannars in Hungary, We have Advice from Turky, that the Count de Bonneval made; his Refidence at Saraia, a Town of Bofnia; and that that General having written to the Grand Vizier, to defire. Leave to return to Conftantinople, be received for Anfwer, that the Porte had not yet any Occafion for his Service; fo that it is likely he will find great Reafou to be tired of fo paltry a Place, and to repent of the Step he has taken. They write from Triefte, that z well arm'd Fre� gates were failed from thence, fleering towards Naples. Frankfort, Feb. 18. N. S. According to the Lifts fent by the Imperial Officers to the Court of Vienna, they had raifed 3560 Recruits in the Empire before New-Year's Dayj and they are railing the reft as fa ft as they, can. Letters from Vienna confirm, tbac the Emperor is refolved not to confent to the In-| troduction of Spanifh Troops into Italy, up-? on the foot that is ftipulated by the Treaty} of Seville ; and add, that the Marquis de Velafco, Minifter of Tufcanv, had declared by Order of the Great Duke, that in cafe thq Spaniards fhould attempt to enter his Tetri-tories by Force, his Royal Highneis will then agree to receive Imperial Troops into Leghorn and other Places, upon Condition* that thofe Troops fhall take an Oath of Fidelity to him. Hanover, Feb. 17. N. S. We hear of hardly any thing here, bur War and Military Preparations. Our Train of Artillery is ready to take the Field ; and a great Quantity of Corn is ground, in order to be pack'd up in Tons. A Contract is actually made with a Field-Baker and feveral Servants 5 and Orders are given for erecting Magazines in different Places where it is thought they, may be wanted. Mean while, great Sums of Money are fent to Wolfembuttel and Caffel. Laft Monday arrived here an Exprefs from London, and the next Day we fent a Courier to Calfel; and the Night before laft arrived another Exprefs from London, who ftopt only while he deliver'd fome Difpatches, and then proceeded much farther,' as we are told. But afcer ail, this does not difcover the true Reafon of the Military Preparations in this Electorate ; and it is thought we muft wait the arrival of another Exprefs from the Court of Great Britain, before we are let into that Secret. We have receiv'd the good News from Berlin, that the Queer* of Pruffia is upon the mending hand : Not-withftanding our Differences with that Court, we have permitted the Exportation o� thirty eight Horfes bought up in this Neighbourhood for remounting their Dragoons.' Yefterday there was an Extraordinary Af-fembly of our Minifters of State, at the Pri-vy-Counfellor d'Alvenfleben's.
