Daily Courant (Newspaper) - February 11, 1730, London, Middlesex The Daily Courant. Wednefday, February it, 1729-30. Teflerdaj arrived the Mail due from Holland. l{omr, Jan. 28. N. S- CArdinal Anlidei is fo ill, that bis Life is defpaired of j and they write from Milan, that Cardinal Cufani is re-lapfcd, as is a!fo Cardinal Ruffo at perrara. On Monday Morning a particular Congregation of feveral Cardinals was held, wherein Cardinal Lercari, Secretary of State, was prefenr. We hear the Pope has granted the Emperor the Tenths of all the Church-Lands in his Italian Territories. On Sunday Morning the Pope admitted two Gentlemen into Priefts Orders in his private Chappel of St. Pius V. one of which was a Nephew of Cardinal Lercari's. That Afternoon, his Ho-h'nefs took a Walk in the Garden of his Palace. The fame Day Cardinal Conti went with a great Retinue, accompanied by aS Prelates and feveral other Perfons of Di-ftinction, to the Palace of Duke Sforza Cefa-rini, his Nephew, where he ftood Godfather to the Duke's new-born Son ; and the Princefs of Piombino, who was attended by the Princeffes her Daughters, was Godmother. The Cardinals Bentivoglio, Pico, Colonna, and Borgbefe, were prefent at that Solemnity. On Tuefday Morning the annual Obfequies of the late Don Oratio Albani, Brother to Pope Clement XL were celebrated in the Church of San Sebaftiano; at which the Cardinal Camerlengo, his Son, was prefent ; and went from thence to the Palace of the Vatican, to aflift at the Domeftick Congregation for the fecond time. The Pope gave Audience that Day to feveral Ecclefiafticks, and ordered that for the future his Anti-chamber fhould be open till 150' Clock (which is Nine at Night, in our Reckoning) till Shrove-Tide. An EngHfh Gentleman that lately died in the Chevalier de St. George's Palace, is faid to have abjured the Protectant Religion before his Death. The Father General of the Cations of Lateran is come hither, to be prefent at the Canonization of the Buffed Florcri of his Order; after which he defigns to vifit his Cloi-fters, Florence, January a. N. S: The Great Duke is in perfect Health, and holds frequent Conferences with his Minifters of State, about the prefent Situation of the Affairs of Europe. We wait with Impatience the Return of the Expreffes his Royal Highnefs has fent to Vienna and Paris. We are told, our Court among other Things demands of the Allies of Hanover by way of Preliminaries, that no Spanifh Troops be put into Leghorn or Porto Ferrario, but rather into any other Places they (hall think fit j that the Officers of thofe Troops fhall be appointed by his Royal Highnefs ; and that bis Sifter the Electrefs Dowager Palatine} have a competent Pro-vifion made for her. Genoa, January zS. N. S. Signor Maria Balbi is chofen Doge of this Republick, in the room of Signor Grimaldi, whofe Time is expired. Yefterday arrived here a Ship from Porto Longone, to fetch a confiderable Sum of Money, lately brought hither from Spain. Letters from that Kingdom are full of the Warlike Preparations they are making there, for introducing the Infante Don Carlos into Italy. Vienna, February 4.' N. S. Yefterday Morning the Emperor's Minifters held a Cabinet-Council, at which Imperial Majeftj was prefent. 'Tis ftill affirmed, thar Prince Eugene of Savoy will fpeedily fet out for Italy. The Foot ordered to march thither, are to go by the way of Tyrol, and the Horfe through Sciria, Fiume and Triefte. We are allured, that fomc Imperial Troops in the Dutchy of Luxemburg have likewife received Orders to march to Italy j and that the Emperor will take into his Service fix Regiments of the Princes of the Empire, to be fent aifo to Italy, that the Kingdom of Hungary may not be too much drain'd of Soldiers. Here goes a Report, that the Great Duke of Tufcany has made an Offer to his Imperial Majelty to maintain i6,oco Men. An Exprefs is arrived here from Constantinople, being difpatched by M. Dahlman, the Emperor's Minifter at the Porte, with Advice, that upon the pre/ling Inftances of Sultan Efreff*s Minifter, the Grand Seignior had fent Orders to the Bafhaws who command upon the Frontiers of Perfia, to aflift that Sultan againft Prince Thamas. M. Dreyling, a Cabinet-Courier, fet out Yefterday for Mofcow ; and this Day or To-morrow, an Exprefs will be difpatch'd for Rome. We are told, his Imperial Majcfty has refoved to fend an Exprefs to moft of the Courts in Germany, to execute certain Commiflions; and 'tis reported that feveral BJe&ors and Princes of the Empire have already ofier'd to furnifh him with any Number of Troops he may have Occafion for. We have Private Letters, which fay the Crowns of France and Spain are ufing their utmcft Endeavours to bring the Court of Turin into th� Treaty of Seville; in order to which, his Moft: Chriftian Majefty has offer'd the King of Sardinia to procure him Satisfaction with regard to (ome Lands he claims in the Dutchy Milan, and that Spain fhall renounce the Re-vcrfion of Sardinia. Brunfmcl^, Feb. 1 o. N. S." On Monday laft, the Duke and Dutchefs of Wolfembut-tel, cur Sovereigns, took the Diverfion of a fine Mafquerade, reprefenting a Country Wedding. His Highnefs was in the Habit of a Shepherd ; as were alfo the Counts of Oldenburg and LipBuckenburgh, both newly arrived from Hanover. The Dutchefs, and the PrincefTes of Holfteyn-Beck and Hol-fteyn-Ploen, appear'd like SbepherdcHes: All the Lords and Ladies of the Courc re-prefented the Domefticks in rich Habits, fuirable to their feveral Employments. The Conferences between the Hoafes of Hanover and Pruffia are carried on fo flowly, that we do uot know when they will be brought to a Conclusion. They write from Blankenburg, that the Duke and Dutchefs of that Name divert themfe'lves with {{idotto's three times a Week. Hanover, Feb. 10. N. S. The Military Preparations are continaed with as much Zeal in rhis Electorate, as if we were going to act: Offenfively againft fome Enemy ; but every thing being kept very fecret, we do not know what ground there is for thefe Proceedings. Col. Finck's Regiment of Foot is ordcr'd to be augmented with two Companies; and we are told, that Brigadier Pont Pietin waits only for the next Letters from England, to augment his Regiment of Dragoons with two Troops. On Monday laft an Exprefs arrived here from London; whereupon an Extraordinary Council was immediately held -3 and the next Day a Cou- rier was difpatched to the Court of Helfe-Gaffel. Hamburg, Feb. 10. N. S. Yefterday the Prohibition of wearing Jewels was rejected by our Burghers in a General Meenng ; and the Augmentation of the Graven Gelt, as it is called here, was at the fame time aproved.; fo that the wealthiest Citizens will be obliged to pay a Rixdollar per Week, and others ,in Proportion. Frankfort, Feb. 12. N. S. Tbey write' from Ratisbon, that ta Romifh Prieft pretending to have caft out federal Devils out of a Woman in the Cathedral Church there, in the Prefence of a great Number of People5 the Fact was deny'd by fome Lutheran Preachers, who proved both from Scripture and the Fathers, that there was no ground for fuch an Opinion. Thereupon the Prieft was fo enraged, that he loaded the Lutherans with the bittereft Invectives, and excited the By-ft?.nders to^ fall foul on them. This had loch-an effect, th�t tl.e Lutheran Superintendant M. Mezgcr's Glafs Windows were broke to Pieces in the Nighr, and others of tbem, with feveral Burghers, could noc pafs the Streets without being inobb'd and infulted. The Sicknefs among the Cattle is entirely ceafed in thefe Parts. Fn cafe of a War in Italy, 8 Battalion! of Imperialifts, and 12 Squadrons of Dragoons and Cuiraf-fiers are to march thither from the Dutchy of Luxemburg. Hague, Feb. 16. N. S. This Day M.Van: den Burg, Agent and Counfellor of Coma merce of the Czar of Mufcovy, prefented to the Baron de Linden, Prefident of the Af-fembly of the States General, a Letter from the Czar his Maftcr, notifying to their High-Mightineffes the Celebration of his Czarian Majefty's Nuptials with the Princefs Katha-rine-Alexiewna Dolgorucki. Whereupon Mi de Dieu, who is going to Mofcow in the Quality of Envoy-Extraordinary of this State, will carry their High-Mighrinelfes Anfwer to congratulate his Czarian Majefty upon the fame.
