THE Grant of a Lottery in the Nature of that of Genoa, for which Signor Angelotti and Company offered the Government 8o\ooo Ducats, was fold on Friday laft, by Inch of Ca> d e, to Signor Ignazio Beretta and Company {or 00,000 Ducats a Year. On Tuefday the Prefident Ruffi received the Vice-Toy's Warrant, appointing him Director of the Cuftoms at Foguia. Thurfday being the fiirthwOay of the Viceroys Lady, the lame was celebrated at Court with great Magnificence. Her Ladyfhip was complimented by the Nobility upon that Occafion; and at Night the Opera of The Force of Confanguinity was performed in the Great Hall of rtie Palace. Yeftetday the Countefs Dowager of Daun and her Son were fplendidly entertained at Dinner by the Marfhal Caraffa, with Forty-eight other Perfonsof Diftindtion. The fine Weather we have had here for fome Days, is at laft turned into a hard Froft ; and there is fuch a Quantity of Snow fallen, that all the Mountains, and partic�-� Jarly Vefu'vius, are covered with it. We have no News from Sicily, except that Men are employ'd in Digging, by the Emperors Order, at the Foot of a Mountain, where they expect to find a rich Mine. ^omj, January zt. N. S. On Sunday lift the Pope ordained the Count d'Almenara a Deacon, and on Monday a Prieft, in his Private Chappelr The Emperor has not yec been able co obtain the Nomination of a Cardinal as King of Spain ; but 'tis now laid be makes preil/ng Inftances in behalf of that Count, who is a Spaniard ;j and that the Holy Father is inclined to give him a Cardinal's Cap whenever a Vacancy happens. On Monday laft was held a particular Congregation of Cardinals, wherein the Secretary of State was prefent, about the Differences with the Crown of Portugal ; and fome �will have it, that they bad then under Con-lideration alfo the putting of Papal Garrisons into Parma and Placentia. On the 13th, being the Feftival of St Peter's See, his Holi-aefs went to the Chappel of the Vatican, where Mafs was celebrated for the ift time by the new Cardinal Ferreri, in the Prefence of Thirteen other Cardinals, and feveral Btfhops. The Pontiff then declared, that he ia�| appointed Sunday the 29th Inftanr, for -*rie Beatification of Pietro Forerio, late Regular Canon of the Order of St. Auguftin, in the Church of Sr. Peter. Two Days ago there was a Congregation of the Inqui-iition, and a particular Conference at the Cardinal Prodatary's, about fome Differences in the BifhOprick of Spiers. The Nea_ politan Duke de Torre-Maggiore is returned hither from Naples, with defign to enter into Holy Orders. �Genoa, Jan. zt. N. S. On Sunday laft, an Exprefs went thro' this City, on his way from Florence to Paris, charged (as we are told) with the Great Duke of Tufcany's Anfwerto the Propofals made to him by the Allies of Hanover, about the Introduction of the Infante Don Carlos with SpaniUi Troops into Italy. On Thurfday, Don Bernardo d'Efpo-lera, Envoy Extraordinary of the King of Spain, appear'd in publick for the firft time, and rode to the Senate, where he delivered in his Credentials, being accompany'd by the Confuis of England, France and Spain, and by feveral of our Nobility. He has fince received the Compliments of Count Guicciar-4i, Envoy-Extraordinary of the Emperor, Signor Doria, the Duke of Turfis, the Marquis de Turigha, and the Count de Rohan. Flo-ence, Jan 21. 1 be Great Duke, wbo is m pertc& Health, has held feveral Privy-Councils within thefe few Days, and fent back the Exprefs fo often mention'd to have arrived from the Court of France. They w:ite from Spain, that his Catholick Majefty had lent a Diamond Ring of great Value and fome Indian Rarities, as a Prefent to the Cardinal de Fleury; aftd that extraordinary Armamenrs are making in Spain both by Sea and Land,, to condudt Don Carlos to our Coafts with a numerous Attendance of Ships and Men. Modena, Jan. 21. N. S, Therfamous Jewifh Merchant David Fano is lately dead here, much lamented for bis extenlive Charity to the Poor, among whom be left fome hundreds of Crowns to be diftributed at his Death, without Diftindtion of Religion. . Bologna, Jan. 11. N. S. Cardinal Acco-ramboni is arrived here from his Biflioprick of Imola, and lodges in the Dominicans Cloifter, where the Cardinal Legate has vi-fited him, and invited bim to bis Houfe, where he gave him a magnificent Entertainment. Falmouth, January 31'. Yefterday came in the Phoenix, of London, Reynolds, from Viana, to load Fifli for the faid Place. This Morning failed from Portland Road the Clementine, of Peterfhead, Alexander Frazier, from Bil-boa; the Isbel, of and from Leith, Bartholomew Bott, for Rochell; the Hudfon, of and from London, William Levingfton, for Jamaica; the Nonpareil, of and from London, Andrew Wootton, for Nevis ; the Hat-ley of and from London, Samuel Kingfton, for Virginia; the James of Rochel, of and from Leith, Andrew Fowler, for Bourdeaux. Wind at N. Dartmouth, February 1. Yefterday came into our Road the Mary Ann of this Place, James Bond, from London for Briftol, and remains here yet. This Day came in the Allington of this Place, farcies Pitts, from Exon and Topfham. Remain here the Recovery for Gibraltar, with Coals, and the Alexander of London from Thoulon for Rotterdam. Edmond Williams, Commander of the Otter Sloop Man of War, a Smuggling VefTel laden with Brandy and Salt, whofe Cargo was feized by Henry Fejcher, Tide Surveyor of the Cuftoms here. Wind N, E. Deal, Feb. 3. The Outward-bound are ftill here with the St. Petersburgh, Raicks, fof Philadelphia put back. Yefterday arrived the Granada, Gibfon, for Jamaica, with Jury Mafts, and without Bowfpright. Wind S. by E. Grave fend, Feb. 4. Pafled by the Betty, Conway, from Rotterdam; the Bofton Merchanr, Hammerden, from New England ; the Judith, Smith, from Jamaica j and the Royal Vineyard, Brown for Calais. LONDON. On Tuefday laft Mr. Bambridge and Mr. Corbet went up to the Courr of King's Bench, Weft, minfter, and withdrew their Recognizances, and difcharged their Bail. ' Yefterday came on a Trial before the Lord Chief Juftice Raymond at Guildhall, againft one Margaret Brian, for endeavouring to defraud Mr Langley, the Queer's Mercer in Ludgatoftreer, " of feveral Pieces of Mercery Goods, under falfe Colours and Pretences, who was thereupon convicted. Mr. William Hyarr of Dep:ford, Carpenter of his Majefty's Yarch the Mary, is appointed by the Lords CommiffionefS of the Admiralty to be Carpenter of the Superrje : And Mr. William is app&^nted Carpenter of the Mary Yatch, in the room of Mr. William Hy3tt. On Tuefday laft two Sharpers of the Town went into the Houfe of Mr. Stringer at the Sign of the Three Tuns in Gieat Newftjeet near Fet-ttr-lane, and called for a Tarkard of Beer. -While they fat there a Woman came in to en� quire for Lodgings ; Mis. Stringer going up to {ixow the Lodgings, in the mean time :ne sharpers went oft with a Tankard undifcovered; ic is valued at 10 I.
