Daily Courant (Newspaper) - August 31, 1730, London, Middlesex The Daily Courant. -� Monday, Auguft 31, 1730. Petersburg, Aug. 2. N. S; ON the 22d of July, 2 Mufcovite Merchant Ships came into our Roa'd frotn Bourdeaux, where they were loaden by the Factors of Ruffian Merchants. The Wine and Brandy they brought, are to be fent forthwith to Mofcow. The Dutch Engineer, who is Su-perintendant of the Dykes, has fent to Mofcow a PJan of the two Sluices which are to be built upon the Canal of Ladoga, to render it navigable all the Year round. They cannot however begin to work upon them till next Winter j and 'tis computed that they will ftand the Government in above 200,000 Rubles. As the Time of Harveft draws near, the ^ or 5000 Peafants, who have been employ'd this Year in cleaning the Canals, are fent home to their refpective Villages; and Troops are adtually repairing the Dykes of the Nova, in order to prevent the Inundations which have almoft always happened about the Time of the Autumnal Equinox; Vienna, Aug: i6\ N. S. N. S. Laft Week the Great Duke had a Private Conference with a Minifter of the Duke of Paroia, who came thither a Day or two before, and the next Day an Exprefs was fent to Vienna. The Princefs-Dowager of Florence has had. the Misfortune to Sprain her Foot, as (he was walking in the Gardens of Lappegi. Count Caimo, Envoy of the Emperor, being confined to his Bed by the Gout, has entrufted the Care of his Imperial Majefty's Affairs to a German Cplonel who has been here thele 6 Weeks upon fome Private Negotiation. Our laft Letters from Milan advile, that Count Daun had given Orders for baking 150,000 Weight of Bisket, for the Ufe of the Emperor's Troops, in cafe they mould be obliged to pafs the Mountains, and that Count Car-felli was returned from Vienna, to take Pof-fieffion of his Office of Senator. ^urick. On Wednefday laft, the Woman that fent her Father and Mother out of the World with Poifon, was executed-here in the following Manner : She was drawn fo the Sczftold upon a Hurdle, where being tied to a Stake, ber Flefli was torn with red-hot Pinchers ; after which, fhe and was burnt alive ; but being very penitent, the Minifter who had attended her, defiring in fhe had the Favour of a little Bag of Gunpowder tied under her Chin, which blowing up as foon as the Fire began to burn, is fup-pofed to have taken away" her SCnfes.""
