ON the 7th Inftaht, the Cardinal de Polignac had a Private Audience of the Pope, whom he complimented in the Name of his moft Chri-ftian Majefty upon his Exaltation to the Pontifical Throne. The fame Day, the Criminal Congregation met at CardinalBancbieri's, Secretary of State, and fat 4 Hours; in which time they.refolyed tocarry on the Proceedings againft the Beneventines with Vigour: In confequenCe hereof 5 Perfons were put under Atreft the fame Ntgbr, namely Signors Ge-noibefe, Prati* Ciemenrini, the Advocate Ifol-di, formerly Auditor to Cardinal Cofcia, and the Abbot Gaijerati, who have their Houfes for Prifons, aifter they had been ftript of their Money and Papers. Hts Holinefs having received Information, that Signor Giufeppe Se* greto, one of the Jaft Pope's Favourites, who is retired fron this Court, had entrufted a Benevemine Friend of bis with fome Boxes, he order'd them to be brought into hi$ Apartment, and to be open'd inhisPrefewqe. Cardinal Querini is appointed Keeper of the Apoftolick Library : The Pontiff has given him Leave to refign his Biftioprick of Brelcia in favour of Si^hor Erizzo, Bifhop of Concordia, in Confederation of_a Yearly Penfion. His Holinefs has given Signor Abbati to understand, that he fhould take it as an Obligation, if be would refign his Office of Secretary to the Council, which is defign'd for Signor Lanfredni.
