Daily Courant (Newspaper) - April 22, 1730, London, Middlesex The t. PARIS. The KlNG'i Ordinance for a Genera! Review of +l)c Country Militia, to be m*dt by the Intendantt or Perfons authorised them. By the KING. H I S Majefty judging it for the " Benefit ot his Service, tc " have an exadt Review made " of the Militia, that were * raifed by virtue of the Ordinances ol �' the 2.5 ;h of February, and the 16th of *4 December 1716, and of the 15th of Ja-** nuary 1729; fo that, withoilt taking them ** from the Purfuic of their Ordinary Cal-'* lings, he may be certain they will be rizt '* dy to meet upon any Occafion, and to be ** form'd into Battalions, as ufual, when-ever-he fhall want them to garrifon his ** Places : His Majefty has ordained, and " does ordain, Art. I. " That either the Intend ants; or " Perfons authorised by them for that-Pur-** pofe, do lend for all the Militia of every " Province or Generality fucceffively, to the Places where the faid Intendants, or the ** Perfons authorized by them, do rcfide, to *' pafs in Review, and to be fent home, im-'* mediately after, the fame Day, if it can " be done, to their refpedtive^ Parifhes, with " Orders to hold themfelves in a Readinefs * to march unon the firft Notice. II. '' His Majefty ordains, that till the ift *' Day of September next, the Milttia fliail ** not be abfent from their Pariflies, unlefs it ** be to work in fome that are adjacent, and * within the Compafs of two or three Days " march at the mod; and in that cafe, they " obliged co acquaint the Syndick of u theirParifh with it, that he mayalways ** know where they are. III. " They (lull be paid at the Rate of 8 Sols per Day for every Serjeant, and 4 *' Sols for every Corporal, Lancepefado, (or " Under-Corporal,) Fuzileer, and Drum of " the faid Militia, during the Time they fhall be abfent from their Parifhes for the *' Review, which fhall not, however, exceed " the Number of three Days. It is his " Majefty's Intention, that this Review fhall "be made and all over, by the aoth of '* April at fartheft. IV. " As for tbofe that fhall not appear at the Review, two Lifts be made of their *' Names and Places of Abode, figh'd by " the Commiflary or Subdelegace ; one of " which, fhall be delivered to the Intendant, " and the other tb the Provoft-General of *' the Marfhalfea, or to bis Lieutenant of " the Precinct * and the Intendants fhall or-" der the faid Provofts, or their Lieutenants, " to fend Summons to the Iaft Habitations of " the Abfenters, to appear within a Month " at fartheft, reckoning from the Date of " the Summons; after which Time, thofe " that have not appear'd, nor fent in any " lawful Excufe to juftify their Abfence, '* fhall be referred by the faid Provofts, or " their Lieutenants, to the faid Subdelegates " or Commiflaries, who fhall keep a Regi-" fter for that purpofe  after which, Coun-" cils of War fhall be fummon'd by the In-*' tendants, to try, and pafs Sentence of " Death, if they deferve it, as Deferters, upon fuch of the Militia, as have been " tions of the Ordinances touching the Mi-" Una. VI. " The Intendants fhall caufe the " Cloaths and Arms of the Militia to be " view'd in the Magazines, and fhall fend " an Account thereof to the Secretary at " War's Office* together with the Sums it " will require to put them in complete Re- pair. VII. " His Majefty again declares, that " the Militia which have been raifed in " Confequence of the Ordinance of the 25th of February 1716, or replaced in 1727, " fhall be difebarged at the End of the prefent " Year 1730 ; nor fhall any of them, under " any Pretence whatever, be excepted from " that Difcharge, unlefs it be fuch as not " having appeared at the former Reviews, * have obtained their Pardon, by making " their Submiffion to ferve four or fix Years, who fhall remain Militia in difcharge of of their Parifhes during the Time in their " Submiffion fpecify'd ; and that in the Be-" ginning of the Year 1731, Care fhall be " taken for replacing thVfaid Militia that are " to be difcharged the latter End of the Cur-" rent Year. It is moreover his Majefty's " Intention, that the Militia raifed in�purfu-" ance of the Ordinance of the 15th of Janu-" ary i720� fhall continue to ferve till the^ " End of the Year of 173a. His Majefty or-" dains and commands the Governors and " Lieutenant. Generals of bis Provinces, and *e the Intendants of the faid Provinces to ap-u ply themfelves, each in his Station, and ac " cording to the Rules laid down, to the " punctual ObfeVvarion and Execution of the " prefenr Ordinance. His Majefty Iikewife " orders the Governors of his Towns �nd " Places, all Bailiffs, Senefchais.
