Courtenay extends 4 inch wood stave main to Comox wharf with a standpipe for boats. Water from Goose Lake now serves Comox under Courtenay administration, improving hospital supply and fire protection as private connections proceed.
Mr and Mrs J Walton were guests of honor at a surprise party hosted by Mrs Richardson on Maryport Avenue. The Rev EB Robathan presented gifts to the couple as they prepare to leave Cumberland for a new home in Victoria. The event ended with a concert and songs.
The Cumberland Men's Club, recently organized, meets every Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. in the Parish Hall and plans a lively winter program. Cribbage and checkers competitions are expected, with Morris at the piano inspiring members to sing old melodies.

The Cumberland High School chronicler reports the first inter class debate between matric and second year on the question whether ambition does more harm than good. Leland Harrison and Helen Parnham led the affirmative, Alastair McKinnon and Jessie Grant the negative. Cumberland won 18 to 14 as Jessie Grant delivered the day’s winning speech.
At a Cumberland Post meeting of the Canadian Legion B E L held in Memorial Hall on Wednesday evening, secretary J Walton received a pen and pencil as a token of esteem. Walton plans to leave next week for Victoria, and Fraser Watson was appointed secretary pro tem.
Courtenay city officials and the Courtenay Comox Board of Trade held a brief meeting to study proposed boats for the Powell River run. Prospective operators urged loans and subsidies, with figures for a 56 foot hull, diesel power, and passenger freight service. The Vancouver Courtenay Transportation Co proposed a 25 passenger boat with a car scow, to operate within six months, and a plan to convert to diesel at a cost of about 10 thousand dollars. The group planned further discussion and committee review to decide on financial backing and service viability.
Russell H. Hicks died Friday October 22 at Union Bay aged 26. A Royal Northwest Mounted Police trooper who served in World War CAM.C., he married Edith Brown of Union Bay. a daughter two months old. Funeral Sunday at Presbyterian Church Courtenay with Cumberland Cemetery burial. pallbearers were close friends.
Several residents appeared before Magistrate T. H. Carey and were fined $2.50 and costs for failing to take out dog licenses. Keepers of dogs who have not paid are warned prosecutions will follow.

The Busy Bees of Holy Trinity Church hosted a Mother and Daughter Banquet in the Parish Hall. Rhoda Walton led the toast to The King, with toasts to Mothers and to Busy Bees. Miss Carrie Richardson guided club work as president Rhoda Walton prepares to leave for Victoria.
Cumberland notice invites all residents to a farewell social at Memorial Hall on Saturday. A whist drive starts at 7 00 followed by refreshments. A concert at 8315 sharp features Mr A J Taylor as chair and Plumps Orchestra for a 9 00 dance. Gentlemen 50c ladies bring refreshments.
The Cumberland Cribbage Club will hold its inaugural tournament at the Athletic Club on Wednesday at 7 15 p m. District delegates plan a league schedule next week with Courtenay yet to enter.

Courtenay October 27 A meeting of the Comox Agricultural Association directors shows a determined rush to prepare 1927 prize lists now and print them early. Special committees cover cattle horses sheep poultry horticulture domestic science and an entertainment program with three events planned.
Courtenay area scouts reorganize for winter programme with a Camp Fire Singsong planned for November 1. Patrols include Eagles led by George Brown and Will Brown’s Lynx with Jack MacLean as second, Owls led by Andrew Brown and Andrew Brown Jr. as scout leaders. Beavers under J Horbury and A Mackinnon. A Bun Feed Camp Fire will invite Courtenay Scouts and a January Father and Son banquet is planned.
Cumberland Post of the Canadian Legion announces Armistice night masquerade with prizes from 15 to 41 dollars for best dressed lady and best flower girl. Doors open at 7 30, dancing at 8, grand march at 11. Admission 50 cents to spectators, masked attendees pay 1.00, tombola prizes featured. Location is Tlolo dance hall on November 11.
