Last Tuesday afternoon a roof coal fall at No 4 mine fatally injures Bernardo Rosetti. He died Wednesday night at 11 46 after treatment failed to relieve his injuries. Funeral attendance was large.
The City Hall presents The Fall of Troy in two reels with color, hailed as the most magnificent motography production yet. Miss Reynolds performs The Flower Song from Faust. Monday and Tuesday feature H. L. Bates and Miss Reynolds in The Gipsy Countess, a comic opera selection. Wednesday to Saturday continues the program with The Sen.
City Fathers convened Monday evening with Aldermen Banks Maxwell Parnham and Mayor McLeod present. Minutes read and adopted. Constable Gray’s report shows payments for night watchman scavenger hall rent and police. Sidewalk snow clearance ordered with fines up to 25 dollars. hydrant out of order. Accounts reviewed totaling 2912.10. sidewalk frontages estimated 125 dollars per 60 feet. Adjourned with local notices and social notes.
Cumberland's mining district sees a payroll of 106 211.42 dollars paid for coal output, while Canadian Quileriers Ltd plans 1 600 000 dollars in equipment and improvements over 12 months in Vancouver Island fields. Grants Smith & Co win a 600 000 dollar contract for water power to run mines and the Cumberland to Union Bay railroad, with 21 000 bore power expected. 200 workers now at site, soon 150 more, and 800 anticipated by next summer.
The Cumberland Choral Society announces a formal Sunday evening concert with a lengthy program and favored soloists. Highlights include hymns, anthems, duets, and choral pieces led by conductor J Lewis, with C Parnham on accompaniment and H C Brown as chairman. Doors open 8 PM. collection at entry. Mayor presides as secretary.
