Ottawa Postpones Action On Flag Design
The government cancelled the order in council appointing a committee to study land designs for a Canadian flag. The move drew criticism, especially from Toronto, with the Prime Minister clarifying that no replacement for the Union Jack was planned and that a land Dominion flag would accompany the maritime ensign, as practiced in Australia, New Zealand and South Africa.

Mainland Berry Growers Loan Refused by Government
The Provincial Executive refused a $130 000 loan request from the Mainland Berry Growers Association to cover this marketing season. Premier Oliver said the decision rested on the association's unsettled affairs. A $10,000 loan was granted to the Growers Wine Company of Saanich to buy sugar and pay wages for the season. The government backs the loan with security on Loganberry wine production. The company produced 22,000 gallons last year with substantial sales.
