Live Stock Movement Expands in Western Canada 1924
The twelve months ended show a material rise in hog marketing in western Canada driven by better hog prices. Data from St Boniface Manitoba yards reveal large year over year gains with most stock heading to eastern Canadian markets and some for export. Sixty six percent of eastbound traffic used Canadian National lines as Alberta opens Orient markets for livestock products and trial cattle shipments move via the Yellowhead Pass to Vancouver for Pacific transshipment. Five poultry movement grows with many cars sent to United States destinations and to Winnipeg, with Alberta cars reaching California.

Salmon Pack Set Records Amid Rail Movement
The salmon pack of British Columbia reached a record last year while the Canadian National secured its full share of rail movement. Vancouver steamers carried much of this traffic and operated routes to Montreal in summer and to Halifax and St John in winter. Through Prince Rupert Alaska origin tonnage moved to US points via CN ships, with frozen fish also traveling to US destinations. Dairy products moved in fair quantities to export markets via the Atlantic seaboard, with Alberta cars shipped refrigerated to Great Britain and butter sent to the Orient.
