Vancouver Hero to Receive Bronze Medal for Rescue
Phillip Fenwick of Vancouver is to be awarded a bronze medal by the Royal Canadian Humane Society for saving a life during a 1922 fire at Black Creek north of Courtenay. He risked his life to save Andrew Barr, suffered injuries needing two years of hospital treatment.

Canary Dinner Not For Taking In Royston
Courtenay February 5 A small hawk struck a window while Mr N G Thomas worked in his Royston garden. The bird sized like a robin hit the pane and flew off dazed as canaries in an aviary behind the window awaited a potential dinner. Thomas then shot the marauder with his gun after it attempted the canary raid. He had killed a Leghorn pullet a week earlier.

In Courtenay on February 2 Miss Kathleen Halley reported a brood of young ducks seen on the Courtenay River near Sandwich. She had previously seen the mother duck with the ducklings over a week earlier and could not identify the species.
