Ottawa reports the order in council appointing Frank Barnard of Victoria as lieutenant governor of British Columbia to succeed T. W. Paterson. The Duke of Connaught signed the document, and Barnard is expected to assume duties immediately.
Joe Little is ready to box any middleweight on Vancouver Island after Cyclone Scott of Victoria failed to meet terms. Jeney Brown of Cumberland is the preferred opponent if offered.
The Licensing Board chaired by His Worship the Mayor met Wednesday evening with Commissioners D R MacDonald and Alex MacKinnon. Minutes from prior meetings were read. Five hotel license renewals were granted along with four bartender and wholesale licenses. The inspector reported favorably on all renewal applications. The board adjourned.
The Cumberland Conservative Association held their annual meeting Tuesday electing J. H. MacMillan as President Thos E Bate as Vice president Thos Bickle as Treasurer Hugh Sloan as Secretary and naming Thos D McLean J W Wearmouth Robt Henderson EH W Searle and W Wesley Willard to the executive committee for 1915 The association reports prosperity and growing membership.
A Monday meeting in the St George’s Presbyterian hall organized a Debating and Mutual Improvement Association. Officers named include John Sutherland as President and Rev. Jas Hood as Librarian. A small library of 80 to 90 volumes will be available and opening set for December 14 with a varied program. S. Ochtover buys Macfarlane Bros stock for a December 17 sale in New Westminster.
The adjourned Court of Revision sat with Mayor presiding. Maxwell Mitchell and Hartison argued over producing sale agreements and the case was left for future action as the court adjourned amid claims of unscrupulousness.
The Rev J S Henderson will speak on Citizenship at Grace Methodist Church next Tuesday evening December 15 at 8 o'clock. The speaker has made a special study of the subject and a genuine treat may be expected. All are welcome. a collection will be taken to cover expenses.
