J Hawthornthwaite told Kiwanis Club members last week in the Chamber of Commerce that heavy taxation in British Columbia discourages capital and mining investment. He cited succession duties as part of the fiscal burden facing the industry.
Mr Hawthornthwaite urged support for natural resources to restore good times and provide work for unemployed. He blamed many mining liquidations on public bets on unproven claims and argued that properly run mining corporations using practical methods had earned large profits.
