Campbell River Masquerade Ball Aids Front Line Soldiers
The Bachelor Girls of Campbell River hosted a masquerade dance April 6 at the Willows Hotel dining room to raise funds for sending smokes and candies to boys at the front. Proceeds totaled 199.90 with 60.65 from the collection and 5.20 from costumes and masks. a sweater prize went to Mr. G. Bigood, ticket 28. Miss M Richards of the Big Store returned from Seattle. A dance is planned for Friday May 24 in Ilo Ilo Hall.

Special City Council Session Considers 1918 Tax Rate and Band Issue
The Cumberland council met in special session to discuss the 1918 tax rate and estimates. A delegation from the West Cumberland Band urged city support and a city band, with talks to merge factions or form a Barrass led group. The Cumberland General Rate by law sets 15 mills on real estate and 15 mills on half assessed improvements with a July 15 rebate. The school and trade license rates were deferred, and total city tax is estimated at 25 mills.
