Rivers needs new town foremanBy Sheila SzapkoBanner StaffRivers town foreman, Jeff Worth, resigned last week after being charged with a second impaired driving. Last Wednesday. Sept. 18, was the date Worth received his second charge.“I can’t confirm any circumstances,” says Chief Const. Mike Turnbull. “I’m not allowed to discuss it until the case goes to court.”Worth appears in Brandon provincial court on Monday, Oct. 7. The charge carries a minimum sentence of a 14-day jail term and a six-month suspended licence with a maximum sentence of a 90-day jail term and a three-year loss of licence. One year ago,Worth lost his licence for six months and the Town of Rivers kept him on staff and provided him with transportation.Because of this second charge, Mayor Roy Stevenson issued a one-sentence press release.“On Sept. 25 Jeff Worth tendered his resignation as public works foreman for the Town of Rivers, effective Oct. 25, 1996,” saysStevenson’s release.Stevenson says there is nothing else to say or elaborate on. When asked if present public works employees (John Fast or Randy King) would be promoted, he made a brief comment.“We will, in due time, be producing an ad and try to get a new town foreman,” said Stevenson. “That’s the normal procedure and if they wish to apply, they have that chance.”Worth declined to go into detail on the matter.“I’m not saying what I did was right or anything,” says Worth. “It’s my personal matter and not a public thing. I did it (resigned) for personal reasons and that’s the way I’d like it to remain. If people want to know about it, they can talk to me and not read it in the paper.”
