alv*a-?dactDSiI _____(From the Daily)William King, negro, in near deathin St. Edwards Hospital in Cameron from a gunshot wound inflicted Thursday night on the Sneed l*arm near Jones Prairie.Sheriff Carl C. Black piaccd James Franklin, another negro, under arrest and charges have heen filed for assault with intent to murder. Proceedings in the case are awaiting the outcome of the wounded man scondition.According to Sheriff Black the shooting followed an argument at theKing home. He said the negroes were playing a game of Hiss and from that the trouble ensued. A number ijj of negroes were at the King house tt» and early in the evening trouble arose between Franklin and King.Franklin shot King with a double of ! barrel shot gun. The shot entered King’s stomach, the load lieing partlyretarded by his belt, nt King was rushed to the hospital here where an operation was performed. Surgeons were not certain he would live. He had shown some improvement by Friday morning.Franklin is in jail awaiting disposition of his case.
