Canon Church HitBy Sudden FireA mysterious fire late Monday damaged the Canon Brethren Church.A frame portion of the church, at the rear of the building, was badly damaged, but a fire wall and adobe material of the church proper along with quick work by Taos Volunteer Firemen, kept the flames from spreading.The Rev. Sam Homey, church pastor, estimated damage from the fire and from smoke and water to be about $500.The fire started in the wooden portion of the building, apparently following an explosion, which neighbors said they hear. There was not wiring or inflammable materia! in the building.Adding to the mystery was the false alarm turned in a week ago Sunday which sent firemen rushing to the Canon Catholic Church,not far from the Brethren Church.!•No fire was discovered at that Time. iThe Rev. Mr. Horney said1, church services will be held on; regular schedules in the church's community youth building until the church is repaired.The fire alarm Monday was sounded by Mr. Horney, who saw the flames and smoke as he returned from a call at Holy Cross!
