Chase, who was found dead in his Phippsburg home Monday afternoon, had any living relatives, a son, Newall Adams Chase of Rahway, N. J., graduate of Rutgers University, arrived in Bath Wednesday morning to take charge of the body and make plans for Its .burial. *The arrival of the younger Mr. Chase clears up the shroud of mystery surrounding the lonely life of the 63 year old man who came to Phippsburg 18 months ago to reside permanently. The deceased was married and his wife now lives in Rahway, N. J., and he has six children surviving as well as two sisters and a brother.Prom his son, it is learned that the dead man was at one time a prominent official of the Pennsylvania Railroad Co., and engineer of repute, surveyed and laid out the city of Tampa, Fla., when Just out of college, ran steamboats on the Hudson river, was the founder of the Interstate Lighterage Co., of New York, ran his own tug boats on the Hudson river, interested in the American Export Co., an artist of no little ability and at one time owned a large portion of the city of Rahway, N. J., and built scores of houses in that development. In the past few years, ill health had caused the man to sell the majority of his real estate and slip quietly from his other business connections and seek a quiet life in Phippsburg. He was bom in Baltimore, Md.; and his father was the founder of Chase National Bank in that city. He graduated from Dartmouth in the class of 1889 and his hobby was to draw and paint, though he selected engineering as a livelihood and graduated from the engineering school at Dartmouth.Incidentally his development work in the city of Rahway, N. J., was known as the Oak Tree Inc., which accounts for the name he gave his development at Phippsburg in 1916 when the late William T. Hall of Bath, acting as his attorney, drew up papers to that effect.Because of conditions, the younger Mr. Chase plans on burying the body in Oak Grove cemetery and purchased a lot Wednesday for that purpose.Prom the interview with the unfortunate man’s son it was evident that it was a story of a brilliant scholar with a remarkable education ahd natural business intellect, becoming discouraged by ill health and clearing up his various business matters to seek a life of seclusion in hopes of regaining his health.Even in the last few months, Mr Chase dabbled here and there in real estate.Besides his wife and son who is inChrist- Bath, there arc two other sons, Fred-ae old ones. She ad she n love Holly fwn as in the ■gotten amous 's im-ie also in the York. ; wom-ry and ightfulerick A., of Rahway, N.
