Six BanditsRob Bank atNorth SalemTwo automobiles loaded with armed North Salem citizens this afternoon were in pursuit of six ba.ik bandits who held up the North Salem State bank, escaping with$'J.000.The bandits left North Salem on a country road to Danville, but were believed to have altered their course and headed for Rockville and western Indiana, for a hideout.A sheriff’s squad from Danvillejoined the chase after notificationof the holdup. The bandits used two cars, a new black Ford coupe, and an old black and red Kissel sedan. North Salem is in Hendricks county, about thirty milesnorthwest of Indianapolis.Each of the three in the bank were armed with a heavy automatic pistol. The leader of the trio first asked for change for a $20 bill and as it was shoved under the cage to him, produced a gun.Taylor Owen, cashier, and Fred Smith, assistant cashier, were alone. They were forced to lie on the floor back of the cashier’s cage, while the bandits scooped all cash in viewon the counter into a small sack.Then they forced Smith to open the vault, and from it took all the money they could find. Running from the bank they joined their comrades in the waiting autos, and sped east toward Danville.
