Boy of 1G Wields the Power Over Younger15oys at School.Cedar Rapids, la.. Oct. 7.—A sensation has been created in this citv by thediscovery that a 16-vear-old boy has * ibeen acting as an hypnotist and using the younger boys of the school in Central park for subjects. When Professor Roche gaye a series of hypnotic entertainments at the opera house this boy, whose name is Elliott, was one of liis subjects, and he has since been practicing the art with considerable success.It is learned that he has had the 10-year-old son of a neighbor hypnotized almost daily for a month past. His parents have noticed his peculiar actions, and supposed it was due to ill health, but it is now learned that he was under hypnotic influence which had not been properly removed by the manipulator.Young Elliott has even extended Ms efforts to the placing of his subjects in a cataleptic condition, and a few days ago, with the assistance of several other boys, he put a 10-year-old lad in a cataleptic condition and suspending him upon two chairs broke a rock on hi* body weighing over 100 pounds.The nature of his work was discovered by one of the teachers going upon the play ground and finding a dozen of the boys ranging from 6 to 10 years of age under his influence, and while imagining themselves members of the Ink-pa-du-tah’s band of wild Sioux, who committed the Spirit Lake massacres of 1857, were chasing each other with knives in their hands. The superintendent of the city schools has taken the matter in hand.
