PREPARING FOR DEATH.Wesley Johnson l.on^ln^ for the 29ibol May,3rts*a-atThe Napoleon Signal of Thursday, 22d, has the followirg regarding the hanging of Wesley Johnson , the murderer of the Williams family, which is to take place on the 29th:“Preparations now being made for Johnson’s execution give warning that his days are numbered. Amos Mattice of'Clevelaud, Ohio, has been employed to erect the scaffold for which he will receive $76, and probably is here and ai his dreadful work now, which will take him about a week. He will use the ‘diop’ which has several times seen seivice, but the rtsiof the scaffold will be put up here. Mattice, however, will have nothing to do with the hanging; Sheriff Aller will have the nerve to do his duty. There is ample room in the jail for the scaffold, which is the place d signated by law when there is the required space. It is 15 feet and 10 inches from the floor to the ceiling; this is enough, as six feet drop is sufficient. When John Cowell was hanged here, the rope stretched so that his feet rested on the ground, (a % inch rope) but the rope for Johnson will be an inch rope. The tickets of admission tor those who will assist the Sheriff are printed and partly distributed; they are in mourning—feart'uly suggestive of death. The Sheriff has made a requisition on Col. Norton for militia for guard duty. Company F is ordered out. The Council have authorized Mayor Tressler to appoint ten special policemen, with power to increase to any extent if necessary. His honor the Mayor apprehends no trouble, and thinks ten will be enough, and will issue no proclamation unie s some emergency arise. Walter Higgins will be a deputy on duty at the jail until the executiou is over.atilt'J11tgSvI
