For the first time during th« week it was realized that the courtireporter was placing upon the record testimony that might Justify the Jury in hanging the man. Then it was that Noble chanced. He seemed to get farther down into his chair, the “don't-care” expression that he had assumed was gonlt;\ and developed into one ofintense seriousness, his eyes nearly all the time being riveted on the floor. He had a pencil with which he scratched a piece of paper. During the recess he did not laugh or Joke with hiswife and brother, but they had a quiet and seemingly serious conversation. All realized the fact that a telling blowIevery night sits up and reads until 12 and 1 o’clock. He eats heartily, keeps himself in good shape and appearance and is quite particular regarding hisdress and appearance while In the court room.
