Gainesville, Fla., .May 12.—Marshal C. H. Slaughter and Deputysheriff Charles White of Archer.Fla. were decoyed to a lonely spotnear that place at 3 o’clock thismorning and assassinated. 1 yf.T. A. Hedeputized White and Manning andtostarted for the scene. When the par-thoffly approached the ./vicinity ,every- ^thing seemed to be quiet, but whenthe officers started to reconnoitrethey were greeted by a volley ofshots.Marshal Slaughter and DeputyMseSheriff White fell at the first fire,both being dead when aid arrived. Manning also fell with a wound in hhis abdomen.
