CONCUBINAGECHARGE WILLBE TRIED HEREWhite Man Charged With Having Negro For Common Law Wife(From Friday’s Daily)Hub Barnette, white, and Hattie Wilder, colored, were arrested and lodged in the parish jail here yesterday on a charge of concubinage, following complaints that have come to the local sheriff’s office from citizens of Ward Two where Barnette resides, alleging that the negro woman has been living as the common law wife of Barnette for several months.According to Sheriff Thigpen reports have cornel to his office lrom both white and black neighbors of the couple in which complaints were made against the conduct of the couple. Sheriff Thigpen and his deputy, Clyde Frasier, went to the home of Barnette late Thursday morning and made an investigation which revealed that the charges were true. The couple were then arrested and brought to the parish jail here, but were later releasedon bond.It was in the home of Barnette that the local sheriff found the sawed off shot guns sometime after Christmas which were thought to have been kept to use in a proposed robbery of the Bernice bank. The couple will be tried here at the next term of court.the third judicial district of Louisiana, composed of the parishes of Lincoln, Jackson and Union, in the Democratic primary election to be held in said district on September 9, 1930.Captain McBride makes his announcement for said office subject to the wishes of a majority of the voters in said democratic primary election.Captain McBride is a practicing attorney of Ruston and elsewhere in this district, having practiced law for eight years.
