Can’t UaDg Birchfield.Jim Uirebrieid, tho Hawkins county wife murderer, was given a sentence last week of thirty years in the state penitentiary. The hearing of the case took place at Uogorsvillo before Judge H. T. Campbell. Birchfield is one of the moat noted criminals that ever darkened n prisou door in the state, lie has killed two men and spent twenty-four years of his life in prison, having served live terms. Two years ago he went home drunk, and because bis wife did not have a warm supper for him at the midnight hour he shot her and set tire to tho cabin. It was many inouthB before Hirchtield was arrehted, and when tried first he was giveu a sentence to hang, hut tho supreme court a year ago reversed the case on a technicality. It is not likely that Birchfield will pray another appeal.- Morristown Gazette.
