A “Dark Corner” Man Sends a BulletThrough His Body.8 I ■IReason for His Action is a Mystery. I.at “Dark Corner,” made an attempt i Saturday evening to end his own life, i He shot himself through the body just ( below the heart, but the bullet failed j to accomplish its purpose. No cause is i known for Mahaffey’s action. ]Mahaffey is a widower about 45 years lt;old. He is a farmer and owns a farm ; at “Dark Corner.” He came into his 1 house Saturday evening at 5 o’clock, 1 during the supper hour, and stated to lt;his hired girl that he wanted to pay ( her off. He also said he would leave j money with her to pay his hands and that he wouldn’t be at home that evening. Wiih those words he paid her ’ $80 and left the house. He stepped at . once into the wood-house and drew a 38 calibre revolver and shot himself through the body. The bullet went through his body and through the Bide 'of the wood house. He was carried into the house and was still alive at 4 o’clock Sunday evening. Mahaffey says if this shot does not kill him the next one will.
