Rape investigation continuingPolice and sheriff’s investigators are still working to determine if a Potter Valley man arrested yesterday is also connected with four rape, or attempted rape cases in the past three months.The suspect, Robert Evans Wilson Jr., 22, was arrested shortly before 4 a.m. Wednesday in a Lorraine Street garage after he allegedly attempted to rape a 21-year-old Ukiah woman in the bedroom of her home, reports indicate.Sheriff’s Sgt. Frank Stafford today said a statement carried in yesterday’s Journal was incorrect in regards to Wilson’s possible involvement in the other cases.The statement, as reported, was thatthey were confident Wilson could be linked to the other cases. Stafford stated it should have indicated they were confident he was the one responsible /or the alleged attack Wednesday morning.Det. Sgt. Dennis Marcheschi of the Ukiah police department remained noncommittal today on a possible connection between Wednesday night’s attack and the four previous cases, three of which occurred in the city.All of the victims were white females between 18 and 27 years of age, and all of the attacks occurred in the early morning hours in their homes. .In one case, the victim was savagely beaten in an abortive rape attempt.
