Sherman P. Bowers,;iattorney for GrabilL called several] former employers of the man, who :gave him a good reputation as a '[farm worker. Bar-4.jrick presented the State’s case. } • A previous good record stoodj Melvin J. Gorman, 23, Rocky ! Springs, in good stead after he pleaded guilty to forging a check for $87 and passing it at Grimes’ store at Lewistown. The judge suspended a three-year House of Cor-•irection sentence upon provision that restitution is made immediately and he placed Gorman on probation.Staley Grimes, the store operator, said he attempted to telephone Wil-ford G. Blank, of the same area, whose name Gorman signed to the ; check, after the man gave it to [him but was unable to reach him! for several hours. When the mer-[ chant learned Blank did not sign | the check. State Police were called and Gorman taken into custody j the same night, with the result that j about S64 was recovered, j Gorman said he had a job wait-jing for him and didn't know why She gave the check. He said he had been drinking. Mr. Bowers was hisattorney.Wheu some question arose as to the pleas and the method of trial]—by Court or jury—the judge postponed trial #£ the case of Stewart |Edward Snyder, this city, until May 110- Snyder is charged with assault jwith intent to kill his wife and also iwith assault and battery.
