Cranbrook residents and visitors are noted in a sweeping local roundup. D. Barron of Moyie and F C DeBois of Fernie were seen in town, while J. Telfer and J. Smith plus many others are recorded in daily movements. Fruit displays from Wendermere and Creston travel through town, weddings and births are noted, and local businesses advertise goods and services.
Arthur Burge and Olive Ryckman wed at the bride’s parents home in Creston BC at 9 am Wednesday. Rev Findley officiated with only close relatives present. Burge, a CPR engineer, is well known in Cranbrook. Olive has many Cranbrook friends. The couple will honeymoon at Perry Creek after returning on the Flyer.
Presbyterian Church in Canada observes children’s day with a 10:45 a.m. gathering in the Sunday school room followed by a reserved seating service in the church. A special Toronto service is planned and parents are urged to ensure attendance. Evening service at 7:30 p.m. invites all, with strangers asked to identify the pastor.
Death reported for T. W. Fowler of Fernie at St. Eugene hospital after a year in Fernie. A miner from Wrexham North Wales, he worked for Crows Nest Pass Coal Co. He was ill with typhoid during the Fernie fire and died last Monday in Cranbrook. Survived by a widow. Funeral held at Christchurch today with Rev. Flewelling officiating.
Tomorrow Farl Grey will tour Cranbrook then may visit Days and wind through Windermere country, possibly crossing the divide from Kootenay lake. He will be accompanied by H Lowther of Roundup Montana, a relative.
Proposes Hudson Bay route as the shortest rail haul to tidewater, slashing transport costs and grain prices in Western Canada. Claims a thousand mile average shortening from prairie wheat fields to Churchill, expanding cultivable lands in Manitoba Saskatchewan and Alberta and boosting production. Warns of remaining transport challenges once rail capacity grows.
