Recreation Club Faces Shutdown After Director Resigns

A Tuesday meeting of the Recreation Club directors reviewed the resignation of physical director Gee Salter and a deficit of 344 this season, with total liabilities near 2600. Proposals included possible discontinuation, community support, Rotary Club funding, and running the club with volunteers if needed. A follow up meeting was set for next Tuesday with representatives from other organizations to decide the club's future.

School Enrolments Rise At Public and High Schools

Public and high schools opened on Tuesday with good attendances. In the high school attendance rose about 20 over last year with Grade IX 64, Grade X 48, and Grade XI 24. The increase stems partly from Grade XII having only UK last year and a larger entrance class. Staff remains largely the same with Miss Rh Magee replacing Mr Mc Laughlin.

Native Sons Resume Meetings After Summer Recess

Native Sons of Canada held their first meeting since holidays on Wednesday evening. Topics included tree planting, funding for arbor day planting, and a discussion on the Cinchon Dog and Canadian flags. A committee was appointed to promote Canadian amateur games and attend the Recreation Club meeting next Tuesday.

Local golfers visit Fernie for annual tourney

Cranbrook golfers took part in the Crows Nest tournament over the holiday weekend drawing 160 players from Lethbridge to Linderton. Prizes went to Mrs. M A Beale second in driving contest and Mrs. Forrest second in nine hole first day. Mrs. McCreery second in ladies nine hole handicap second day.

Tennis Players Return From Nelson Tournament Weekend

Tennis players at Nelson returned Tuesday after attending the weekend tennis tournament. Dr. Fergie and partner Mes Huxton reached the finals but lost to the winning pair. At the district tennis association meeting Simeon was elected first vice president and Dr. Fergie joined the executive.

Five Thousand Mile Dodge Trip Ends in Cranbrook Visit

Mr W H Wilson completes a cross country run in his new Dodge sedan from Walkerville to Cranbrook with Mrs Wilson and Miss Joan. The journey covered 16 states in the return, including Montana and Vermont, with fuel use at 204 gallons and an average 22 cents per gallon.

Fairmont Springs Popular Holiday Venue Draws Visitors

Warm weather last weekend drew many local auto tourists to Fairmont Hot Springs. The camp added a restaurant service and shaded verandah meals. Visitors from Cranbrook Kimberley and Fort Steele registered. 137 campsites used with 55 tourists by end of June. A Montana farmer group and irrigation engineers from the region plan attendance at Calgary events.
