Liberal Logic in East Kootenay Riding Debate

A provincial Liberal critique argues that federal aid for roads and waterways has been misattributed, defending the union government’s wartime economy and contrasting it with provincial spending. The piece suggests the Liberal challenge is more personal than national, urging voters to judge the sitting member rather than broad claims.

King’s song on combines a Liberal election cry says Calgary Herald

Liberals Lose Eastern Press Support Across Canada

Demand for housing grows in Cranbrook in 1901

Twenty years ago Cranbrook faced a housing shortage as vacant houses and rooms were in high demand. The St. Eugene hospital was at capacity, pressing for more quarters. Trains to Marysville and Kimberley ran crowded with travelers, and Marysville’s new smelter town drew attention amid local quarrying activity by the Sullivan company above St. Mary’s falls. On Wild Horse Creek two companies mined $6500 in gold with a final clean-up set to yield about $20000. Hon. F. J. Lascelles, accused of shooting his Chinese cook at Windermere, was acquitted at the assizes but committed to an asylum.
