Stuart Wade of New Westminster, BC potato exhibition commissioner, visited Cranbrook and gathered superb potato samples. He saw yields over 17 tons per acre at Jack Levett and W Bardgett, collected five new varieties, and arranged 40 pound sample lots to ship to New York for a $1000 prize. The provincial government will cover potatos and shipping. Cranbrook district aims for a high score.

Cranbrook Band Returns From Nelson Band Contest
The Cranbrook City Band came back from Nelson last Friday after competing in the Ninth Annual Fruit Fair Band Contest. Nelson won first, Cranbrook second, and Lethbridge third. Two players could not join. nonetheless the full band entered with spirit and earned praise for their performance. Bandmaster Irvine aided them with some top cornet players. The fair and exhibits were well received, and the overall experience will benefit the local band.

Respectable Young Man Convicted in Cheque Raising Case
