Fire destroys Cranbrook Sash and Door Company yard
A blaze starting about 11 45 a m Tuesday gutted the Cranbrook Sash and Door Company engine house saw mill and factory along with two large sleds of dressed lumber. Insurance covers part of the estimated 70 000 loss. The fire spread rapidly, with the plant doomed within minutes, and 35 workers face unemployment. Firefighters battled the flames as machinery and buildings melted under intense heat.
