The southern interior district with Nelson as headquarters was reorganized to centralize forest work. Pattullo notes 1924 fires were the largest since 1922 with 2174 blazes and costs of 249300. Human activity caused 85.9 percent of fires. lightning 14.1 percent. Roads Open Again In District After Frost Repairs
The district reports reopening of the Kimberly road after frost to prevent deeper ruts. With light repairs the road is passable and may stay open if frosts hold. Roads to Fort Steele Wardner Moyie and the east west routes are in good shape. Yahk remains impassable due to heavy snow. Road Superintendent Haynes, first car through from Fernie, found required snow shovelling at Mor taro and other points.

Kingsgate Child Dies in Tragic Drowning Mishap
A two year old named Glen Price died after falling from a riverbank at Kingsgate. Edward Middleman, 11, bravely swam to shore with the body and assisted rescuers, but the child could not be saved. The funeral was held for the infant with Rev. W. T. Tapscott officiating.
