The Chautauqua week end closed with lectures, music, and amusement praised as better than previous years. Lectures offered practical benefits and wit, music pleased diverse tastes, and there was plenty for young attendees. The fourth day featured Pattons with Donald Patton replaced by a Hol town guest after marriage.
The School Board met Friday evening with all trustees present. Principal Porter asked for a $150 raise and argued a fifth teacher would be unnecessary due to limited first and second year class space. Requisition for chemistry supplies, swings for the boys playground, and staffing changes were discussed.
A special council meeting discussed tenders for connecting Gold Creek and St. Josephs Creek waterworks. Alderman Carlyle attended, Mrs. Bevan resigned, and accounts totaling 8819.38 were approved for payment. The secretary was directed to seek tenders for completing four upper rooms of the Central school addition, due by June 20.
