Laurier Returns to Quebec with Grand Reception

Sir Wilfrid Laurier returned to Quebec after a long Europe trip as part of the Imperial conference amid a lavish welcome. The crowd cheered from the wharf to Chateau Frontenac as MPs and Eastern Canada delegates joined the premier for a day of receptions and planned speeches.

Picnic Day for Presbyterians in Woods

A 124 Presbyterian families outing from the town featured a shaded picnic by Mission road bridge with games and prizes. Winners included C McCowan, W Hill, H Tate, Bella Taylor, Sadie Gillis, Harriet Kennedy, Miss Sadie Gillis, and others in events like boot race, sack race, three legged race, high jump, broad jump, needle race, and shooting with prizes such as watches, knives, pins, and a sterling silver pen holster.

Local Cranbrook Baseball Crowd Booms as Herald Game Delights

The Herald game drew a record crowd in Cranbrook with a strong exhibition by both sides. Officials EB Small and James Bates supervised the city league as Bayard Staples umpired superbly, and a $27.40 donation supported the baseball association. Small’s team triumphed 11 to 7 over Bates, with Reed and McCallum notable pitchers and several late scoring bursts securing the win.
