Soo Spokane train opens new western route to Cranbrook

The Soo Spokane line launches service with a grand reception in Cranbrook as the first train arrives late from Spokane. Passengers tour elegant cars, dining and sleeping service prepared by William and McCowan, while crews ready for St. Paul connections. The Spokane route adds an express line westward with a 14 section tourist car, leather upholstery, smoking room, and a Canadian Pacific diner, all part of the new equipment mix.

New Spokane Inland Rail Dining Car Sets Fast Route Standard

The new Pacific station service on the Spokane Inland route boasts a sleek dining car with green leather, six two person tables and 36 chair seats. Engine 1 on the Spokane Inland road powers the fastest service, with Albert Matthewson in charge of the dining car and Conductor John Clair overseeing the inaugural run.

Will Build Docks At Port Simpson

A party of Hudson Bay Pacific railway engineers travels via Seattle to Port Simpson to start constructing ocean docks and lay yards for the company. Malcolm L. Macdonald and directors will visit Victoria in mid July to review the route eastward toward the Skeena river and Peace River district with surveyors. Two survey teams operate from Fort Churchill and Athabasca lake district to map the new road toward the Pacific. all preliminary work aims to finish by fall.

Macleod to Become Manager of G N Railway

Winnipeg June 26 W M Macleod chief engineer of the G N R to be made manager in succession to B A Davies who resigned. Macleod known as a practical railway man whose counsels carry weight in both eastern and western operations.
