Pirates Win Close Local Basketball Clash and Weekend Events
A close Wednesday basketball game at the Recreation Club saw the Pirates defeat the High School 19 to 13 with Gill and Knight stars. Also on the program were girls league Fire Crackers over T N T s 8 to 6, Kimberley beating Cranbrook 8 to 2 in hockey, and a Valentine’s dance at the auditorium with Banff Orchestra.

Word reached Thursday evening that Hon. Arthur Meighen former premier has won the Grenville Ontario by election by about 1600 votes with no Liberal opposition. In the general election Casselman the Conservative candidate won by a thousand in a three cornered fight.

Fire destroys experimental farm building at Invermere
A fire at Invermere British Columbia destroyed the Dominion Government experimental barn and poultry laying house. A pen of fifty White Wyandotte laying birds suffocated in the blaze. The fire started from gasoline escaping a portable lantern used to light the shed.

Miss Annabella Chalmers and Walter Harold Brown wed Tuesday January 24 at the groom’s parents home Norbury Avenue conducted by Rev E W MacKay. The groom works for the B and B Department of the UP. The bride, formerly in this city, has since resided in Scotland and Spring Valley Minnesota. They left for a west bound train honeymoon and will live in this city.

Cranbrook Bowlers Plan Nelson Challenge January 28
Cranbrook bowlers met at the Y M C A on January 24 to arrange a tournament and select a team to face Nelson on Saturday January 28. The schedule lists events for ten pin and single pin games and shows prior results with Leaman Sinclair Dallas and Clark Delany winning in various divisions. A prize donated by W J Wilson for the ten pin single event is noted. The Nelson squad features Finlay as captain with Sinclair Dallas Armstrong Simpson Seaman and Johnson. Local Bonspiel Set To Start Next Week If Weather Permits
The curling club plans a local bonspiel next week pending weather. In addition to existing cups, two new trophies Cameron Cup and Worden Cup are offered to heighten competition. Cameron Cup may avoid handicapping for a strong rink versus a weak one while Worden Cup could be an open, challengeable trophy. Seconds for Worden Cup are provided by W H Wilson. A club meeting to finalize rules is anticipated soon.
