A Vancouver World report circulates that John Taylor of Cranbrook may be appointed to the British Columbia Liquor Control Board. Taylor declines to confirm or deny, saying no official word has reached him. The interior has no current representation on the board. He previously served as government nominee in a by election and is the district’s general road foreman and the first vendor at the government liquor store in the city.
Cranbrook Hockey Club opened the New Year with a 3 2 overtime win over Wycliffe in Selkirk League action at the ORC. Pete Paul opened the scoring for Wycliffe, while Cranbrook rallied with goals from H B Huffman and the Huffman brothers. H Bridges scored the overtime winner after a B Huffman assist as both teams delivered a fast, physical contest before about 400 spectators.

Mrs James Moffat formerly of Amherst Nova Scotia died in Cranbrook this Saturday last. She was 75 and laid to rest beside her husband at Matsqui where Rev H G Estabrook conducted funeral rites. The Moffats, long Amherst merchants, moved west in later years. survivors include Howard Saskatoon Osborne and Lloyd in Perdue daughter Mrs Hunter in Kansas City and Mrs Hodgson in Cranbrook.
The Nelson News reports progress on the Sullivan Mine concentrator in East Kootenay. Construction is about half finished, aiming for a daily capacity between 1500 and 2500 tons, with ore treated for zinc and lead concentrates and smelted at Trail. The system includes upgraded electric railway gauges, new 500 volt locomotives, and full mine electrification.
George Bentley of Creston died at St Eugene Hospital on January 1 after entering December 7 following a spine injury in an accident at Canyon City Lumber Company where he was employed.
