Fernie Mourns Francis White a Lifelong West Resident
Francis White a Fernie resident for twenty five years and long time Alberta settler died after a month long illness on Sunday. Born January 26 1844 in Birmingham England he worked for Grand Trunk Railway in Canada before moving west to Alberta in 1882. He managed the Cochrane cattle ranch near Macleod and founded the Merino Ranch the province s largest sheep operation. He later served as a coal inspector for the CPR and was a longtime Crow s Nest Pass Coal Co employee. His church work endears him to Fernie and his loss is deeply felt.

Santa Claus Visits Kootenay Orchard School Concert

Santa Claus arrived with a brand new suit and distributed gifts to forty five children as Belmont community members served refreshments. The program featured songs recitations tableaux and drills by students of grades I II and III, concluding with the national anthem.

An accompanying address from Cranbrook dated December 26 1924 expressed appreciation for his two years of service and wished him success in Vancouver. Rashleigh left for the Coast on Monday to join the Collector's department.
