London reports show a 215 majority backing a resolution asserting exclusive control of the nation's purse by the Commons over Lords vetoes. The vote followed a brief session, with elections slated for January in boroughs January 8 and counties January 17.
The Fernie district canvass shows 1893 votes with 44 spoilt. Ross 795, Harrington 649, Fisher 405. Ross declared elected. Har rington’s counsel sought a re count for repeaters, but the Returning Officer refused after declaration.
Under the Ladies Guild Christchurch Cranbrook an afternoon sale offers tea and fancy work cookery and ornamental articles. An evening music and vaudeville program features fifty performers with admission 25 cents for evening and 15 cents for children. Afternoon admission free.
The Vancouver Trades and Labor Council decided to push ahead with forming a Provincial Federation of Labor in British Columbia. Unions and executives will be consulted on feasibility and cooperation, and delegates will be appointed for a Vancouver convention when the plan develops further.
Enthusiastic Cranbrook meeting outlines a city hockey league of three or four teams with no outside affiliations. Officers are elected for both hockey and curling clubs, with plans to join the BC Curling Association and boost memberships.
Cranbrook residents and visitors are listed with engagements and appearances from December 1909. Names include Rev G H Hamilton, A Mutz, W J Goepel, D D Winter, N Cameron, and others. Events mention gym activities, a reading room, a court of revision, and a December 15 performance by Bengough at the Auditorium.
A meeting will be held at Fernie tomorrow night to form a hockey league with Moyie Cranbrook Fernie in the western division and Lethbridge Pincher Creek Coleman in the eastern division. Also noted are ads for sweet cider at Fink's Pure Food Grocery and rent payment instructions from W R Beatty. Simpson spouses travel to California for months with a Portland stop for eye treatment.
The remains of the late Theodore Gottrung, held at W. Rt. Beatty's morgue since his death on November 9, were interred at Cranbrook Cemetery on Saturday. The remains of the late William Rogers, who died on December 2, still await interment at Beatty's morgue pending word from relatives in England.
